Review: Way back in February 2020, just as the world was about to change into something really weird for a few years, Teej let rip with the nihilistic minimalistic missive 'War Cry'. It was an unquestionable banger that got shaded by lockdown moves... Until now as the good cats at Nuusic have asked a bunch of talented cats to remix it. First comes the VIP where the subs do all kinds of naughty things to your loins. Objectiv brings his signature rattly drums, Tee follows his amazing 'Neptune' single with a minimal finger clicking funk while Lupo goes full on dark mode with his remix. We've seen your war face a million times but now let's hear your 'War Cry'.

Review: Bristol gang! The OCC collective look back over their past works and shares a few stems around for this third volume of their Segments series. First up Objectiv takes on Lupo's 'Déjà vu' and gives it his own slinky, subversive twist. Moving on, Teej then takes on the whole crew's '12 Shots' and twists it up with big drum fills and sudden twists into total low end decay. Both championed by the likes of Noisia on Vision Radio, you know these are the real deal.

Review: Time for a reload! DJ Hybrid's Deep In The Jungle look back over the last few years of skankings, tear-ups and vibe missions and curate them all in this awesome compilation that stretches the entire jungle drum & bass spectrum. From the classic Bristol style bubbles and bumps of cuts like Conrad Subs' 'It Goes On' to the more traditional junglistic savagery of cuts like Lupo's 'Retrograde', over 30 cuts we're treated to some beautiful 174BPM moments. Other highlights include the emotional 'Must Remember' from Critycal Dub, the powerful and poignant energy of the late great JDizz and the undying rawness of man like Kumarachi. This is awesome music.

DJ Hybrid digs through the Deep In The Jungle vaults for this crucial collection of jams and vibes for this ultimate VA release that flexes the full range of the label and represents a how exciting drum & bass and jungle are right now. The whole LP is one massive highlight but it's great to reload cuts like [IVY]'s four-to-the-floor bounces on 'Moving', the cut throat amen slaps and chops on Toby Ross and Oram's 'Wide Roach', get swept away in the emotion of Flat T's 'Women's Work' and get KO'd by Lupo and DJ Hybrid's still-crucial 'Soundboy'. Serious collection for anyone looking to juice up their jungle playlists.

Review: Many artists are making those gruff, random barking bassline noises right now but few do it with the wit and timing of yung Lupo. Always hitting you when you don't expect it and always cutting out the mix in a really crisp way, Lupo's basses are hitting serious spots... Especially on this new Liondub International EP. Highlights include the 8-bit spirals and decaying, swaying bass riff on the title track, the vocal twist and snarling bass of 'Loving You' and the long awaited VIP of his erstwhile bubbler 'The Funk'. Review: The mighty Lupo barges through the Deep In The Jungle doors and slaps down a weighty pile of jungle science so infectious and heavy even the label bossman DJ Hybrid gets involved on a track... It's another gunfingers affair as 'Soundboy' kicks us out of orbit with all the space between its elements. Elsewhere 'Retrograde' hits hard with a serious breakbeat sound that wouldn't have gone amiss on the likes of Dread around 1997, 'Lucid' is all shakers and savage licks while 'Original' brings us to a halt with a ridiculous bassline pattern and breaks so chiselled they'll trim all whiskers in a 20 mile radius. 'Retrograde'? High grade more like.

Review: This various artists release from Born on Road is packed full of twisted sounds for you wrap your noggins around, and there's a sick blend of aesthetics and styles amongst all the filth. 'Turbulent Times' by Gray and Rider Shafique is wobbly and rolling, it packs all of its energy into the sub-bass and just flows out with style alongside some wicked MC work. 'Pieces of Eight' by Trex is a monstrosity of energy, with a superb drum section that packs more character into the arrangement than you can wag a finger at, whilst Bruk edges in over the top with 'Waps', showing what a hefty dose of technoid energy can bring to the beat. Big.

Review: V Recordings sublabel Chronic has developed a reputation for putting out beats that are even more venomous than its big sister, and their long-standing rollers series is getting a beef up with the fourth instalment. Featuring a litany of acts from a range of eras and a diversity of styles, Chronic Rollers Vol. 4 is a perfect addition to the arsenal of any DJ. 'Blindspot' from Nectax blends a soulful sample with an oscillating warp of juddering bass energy; Mancunian upstart SL8R gets subby and rolling with 'Roundabout'; and Brazilian label long-timers Alibi roll things out tidily on 'Sentinel'. Banging.

Review: Born On Road roll into a new decade in style as Lupo & Jappa join the fray with this savage slab of darkness. Groaning basslines, soundsystem vibes and subtle MC chatter; "Nuff Girl" hits every spot you need it to. It's backed by more heavy artillery: "Flee" now comes in VIP form with its trippy staccato bass burps, Lupo goes solo on the super-spooked out "Minefield" while Jappa closes down the show with M-Tek on "Tuff". Absolute murderation.

Review: Frequencies of Dub is one of those names that sort of just sounds good, you know? It's almost like the D&B equivalent of managerial buzzwords, except instead of 'collaboration', 'passionate' and 'driven', it's terminology that draws on the history of UK underground music. Lupo is doing exactly that with this release, the first side of which is a straight up bit of foghorn gullyness, with a distant, pulsating bass that forms the main body of some serious low-frequency energy. 'Something Like Dis' is more low-key, slipping you into the wobbly madness before you quite realise what's going on.

Review: Hyrdrated Audio have clearly decided that they're going to grab 2019 by the horns and do everything they can to make this year the year that their imprint makes it. You can tell the extent of their determination from the precision with which they've curated this various artists compilation and the mix of vibes and quality is top notch. The opening tune from Metal Work says it all, a rolling grater of chopped-up bass synths that'll pace out its competitors. A favourite of ours is Skeng by Raptcha, another lovely rolling number that flips your expectations on its head with a flow of creativity - big tune. Review: Dutty business: Toronto's DBA crew lay down their second supersized V/A LP of the year and it's an absolute gully jamboree. Ranging from the wobbled-out slaps of Euphonique's "Sound Dead" to twisted drones of Tryptamine's "Gang" via the wily 96 skanks and bubblesome bass of ScattyOne's "Wicked Babylon", Tomoyoshi's funk flipping triplets on "Time & Space" and the awesome halftime sludge of DJ Hybrid's clever Drop Out remix of "Raised In The Jungle" there's genuinely not one even slightly under par track here. Dutty Bass Audio are absolutely smashing the game right here.

Review: Wobble Infectious Digital is a jump up label based in Antwerp, you can hear it's Belgian influence in the tracks which very much cherry pick elements form the full dnb spectrum to create something of a superior quality. Here we have a killer collection of collaborations which delve into the deeper, darker side of the dancefloor style. 'Garon' sets the president for the calibre of the EP, a glitchy shuffling break makes the body of the track which is fleshed out with a pulsating wobble the dirtiest of floors can get down too. 'Rickity Wrekt' is packed with metalic clashes and broken beeps but the stand out section is the bubbling low end. 'Wait Till' warns you of the long, almost vertical drop with its wild horn, akin to a run away ghost train, with understated jungle samples and pounding sub this one is a banger. 'Drop Top' mixes a slow, hip hop break with freaky sci-fi elements, and a deafeningly high pitch.

Review: Full moon madness: south coast riff wizard Lupo gathers his pack for a late night prowl of the murkiest proportions. Each track features a kindred rising spirit as Lupo rolls out an immense collaborative package where every track hits with a different slant. Just check the variety and spread between the bass depth plunges on "Finger Of Doom" and Dispatch-style restrained and you get an understanding of the badness breadth we're dealing with here. You'd be howling to miss this...
