Review: As his vast discography proves, David "Move D" Moufang is a big fan of musical collaborations. It's perhaps fitting, then, that his latest album is packed to the rafters with co-produced killers. Check, for example, the ultra-deep, woozy and off-kilter "Innit", a superbly dubby and opaque cut made with German rave pioneer D-Man, the intergalactic deep house warmth of Fred P collaboration "Building Bridges" and the semi-orchestrated ambient bliss of Benjamin Brunn hook-up "Transit". His acclaimed collaborative projects also feature: Reagenz (with Jonah Sharp) joins forces with Thomas Fehlmann on the elastic dub techno flex of "One Small Step" and Magic Mountain High (with Juju and Jordash) takes slow-burn, softly spoken deep house/dub techno fusion and runs with it. As you'd expect, the solo tracks are impeccable, too.

Review: James 'Fucking' Friedman reckons that in the three years since Moon Rock Volume 1 came out on his New York City based Throne Of Blood imprint, interest and attention in ambient and cosmic music has broadened and deepened. Well, hey that's a fair call and with Moon Rock Volume 4, the label is once again rounding up a shitload of weird-ass kosmische sounds. According to the label, the compilation was conceived in sides; six distinct sets of music that move through a range of styles and sounds, from chill ambient excursions to darker droning noise. Danny Passarella's imaginary soundtrack "Carousel Rising"is guided by a clever use of arpeggio, Tel Aviv indie dance hero Moscoman impresses as always with more cosmic weirdness on The Edge Of The Earth" while Versatile Records legend Gilb'r presents "Arpeggio Island"which doesn't need much explanation. London duo Vactrol Park impress as always with another deep vintage synth exploration on "Islands Of The Delta".

Review: Such is the intimate scale and processes involved in attending Freerotation, there are many out there yet to experience the festival's delights. Some degree of solace can be found in this surprising release from the Workshop camp which consists of two long form tracks performed by Magic Mountain High at last year's edition of the well respected festival. Formed of Heidelberg's Dave 'Move D' Moufang and Juju & Jordash, Magic Mountain High is the trio's full hardware project, and they've been charming club and festival audiences with their drawn out, improvised performances since 2010. The first track, nominally named "Live at Freerotation" develops wonderfully from its unassuming beginnings into full on jacking techno before easing back down the gears, whilst the excellently named "May The Box Be With You!" is a danker, rougher warehouse exposition. In truth it's hard to convey fully the moods covered in a Magic Mountain High performance, it's the kind of thing you need to experience first hand - either via this record or at a festival!
