Review: London's re-edit sleuth Magnetic Soul is known for providing DJs with tasteful reworks of little known gems, but here on Coastal Drift, he provides us with more familiar tunes to mark the warm summer vibes. Gravel-voiced '80s soul belter Paul Young's synthy slap bass pop colossus "Come Back And Stay" gets a bizarre warping - being slowed down into an ethereal Balearic gem. Elsewhere we get string-laden, guitar-shredded phaser disco ("Night Fantasy"), sub-aquatic hypnotic funk ("Eastside") and even the Alan Parsons Project's AOR classic "Eye In The Sky" appears, albeit with a menacing techno growl woven into the song's fabric.

Review: Magnetic Soul's Dab Hand label has been responsible for some seriously good edits of late, with the label owner himself providing most of the highlights. Pleasingly, this latest volume features more tried-and-tested treats for those who like their disco with a little extra oomph. Opener "Tailgate" is something of a dancefloor hustler, with swirling strings and impassioned vocals riding a sweaty, percussive groove. There's more delay-laden vocals to be found on the synth-bass driven, late night thriller "Dream With No Name", while "Don't Tempt Me" revolves around a killer disco-funk groove and sweaty vocal. Finally, "Be Here 4 U" dips the pace and stretches out an intoxicating, string-laden, sax-heavy disco cut for added dancefloor sensuality.

Review: We haven't heard from Londoner Magnetic Soul since the start of the summer, he must have been undercover investigating leads to rare boogie occurrences. The results of his findings are now present on Boogie Sleuth Vol 5, and he's uncovered some interesting material indeed. First up is "Break Loose", a delicious eight-minute slice of synthy 80s Island soul - imagine a mid-80s Tina Turner instrumental produced by Nile Rodgers and you're nearly there. Elsewhere "Nobody Home" is some mean n' loose funk, "Tease Me" is sultry, suspension-filled sultry boogie and "Easy Street" is a dreamily melancholic disco lament.

Review: London-based disco fanatic Magnetic Soul occasionally releases his esteemed scalpel jobs on other labels, but generally he likes to stick to his own Dab Hand label. No surprise then that the Norn Soul EP arrives on his own imprint too. There's a meaty four tracks to get through beginning with a pretty lo-fi, long lost disco lament called ""Hooked 4 Love", before launching into some mean and moody vintage soul on "Since I Found", next things move from the head to heat on the romantic boogie of ""Cast A Spell and "Calling Out" loops some heavily orchestrated sashaying grooves for a trippy closer.

Review: Kojak's transferring of their vinyl re-edits to digital thunders on with two solid disco monoliths. "Blue Flame" is a low-slung, elasticated bass slinker, originally an over-frilly lumpen number by Randy Crawford. "Short Way" takes a slick Bee Gees demo of a tune penned for Dionne Warwick and beefs it up for the 21st century disco heads.

Review: Having previously graced the release schedules of Dab Hand and Kojak, nu-disco don Magnetic Soul is back this time with a new five tracker on Midnight Riot. It's hard to choose, but the best of these quality jams include the mind-warping retro funk of "Do It Baby", the floaty forward flying flute-disco of "Mr Cool" and the intense clap 'n' stomp-along "Freekin Fine".

Review: Take a drag from your cigarette, exhale, take a swig or your whiskey, swallow, and pop on Magnetic Soul's "Hustler", a sultry doozer of an opening track. "Think About Me" is a straight up disco shuffler with claps and other percussive elements shining right through the mix, while vocals to sing along to while swinging to a groove like you're dancing to the Scissor Sisters, check out "Tic Tac Tonight". Lastly, "What You Gonna Do" is full of strings, sexy Eddie C-like licks of guitar and huge vocals to boot.

Review: Edit addict by day, edit deviant by night, Magnetic Soul is back on Dab Hand and he means business thanks to these four classy disco reinterpretations. There's the beauty and glimmer of "Universal Love" - rendered that little bit more dancefloor-friendly, we have a beat-heavy, sax-led scorcher in "Summer Love"; and two funkier cuts reside in "Brass Thing" and "Cold Outside". Magnetic is certainly the right way to go about it!

Review: London based crate digger-turned-producer Magnetic Soul has quietly been providing like-minded DJs with quality re-edits of thrillingly obscure and little known gems for some time. His Boogie Sleuth series - released on his Dab Hand imprint - has delivered some of the most interesting (not to mention playable) scalpel works of recent times. This third volume in the series features another quintet of superb reworks, which range from the heady electrofunk fizz of "Never No" and surging, string-laden disco grandiosity of "Did It Again", to the head-nodding loop-funk of "Love In AM" and the blissfully horizontal love jam "Give It Up". In a word: essential.
