Review: Following on from his recent Pathfinder release, Mani Festo returns to Shall Not Fade. The title track is a fast-paced electro track, powered by lead weight kicks and insistent percussion. Adding to the suspenseful feeling are the freaked-out vocals that Mani Festo weaves through the arrangement. "Grass Snake" is a driving but distinctive techno track, with Mani Festo dropping a nagging acid groove, which he augments with insistent drum breaks. "Synkron" is more intense, and sounds inspired by early Neil Landstrumm as a pounding techno rhythm is peppered with noisy analogue riffs. Rounding off the release is Addison Groove's jittery, stepping remix of the title track.
Review: The next installment in Shall Not Fade's Basement Trax series comes courtesy of Mani Festo, who forms part of Club Glow with Borai, Denham Audio and LMajor, and is chief of the Flightpath label. The Londoner kicks off the The Pathfinder EP with the jungle-infused bounce of "Powertriip" followed by the pounding and broken techno of "Pathfinder", while the retro euphoric acid of "Big Rooms" takes deep you into rave territory. Finally, the sounds of bleep, drum 'n' bass and Detroit collide wonderfully on "Auto Sequence".
Review: Hooversound, the creation of Naina and Sherelle, is back with its fourth release. It might be their best one yet, as Private Caller and Mani Festo step up to contribute two tracks each, a cool format and one which yields a foursome of songs which are firmly grounded in the UK's breakbeat tradition. 'Inside' by Private Caller builds on a bed of hardware driven, synthtic suspense before flipping into rolling amens and a superbly slick reece bass. On 'Titan', Mani Festo brings probably the heaviest track of the release, a seismic clattering of breakbeats that carry an absurd amount of weight and move and duck into effortless rolls and shakes. A new height for the two women taking the whole of dance music by storm. Big.
