Review: London's Manuel Darquart serves up five big, dramatic cuts with a distinctly retro feel. 'Turbo Shandy' itself is a pulsing, throbbing number coming from that place where progressive house and Italo-disco collide, and has dancefloor energy to spare. 'For You' then rewinds to the Balearic/ambient house days of the late 80s/early 90s with its 'E2/E4'-ish bleeps 'n' cheeps, and we then stay in similar territory with 'At The Club At 5am' before the EP's closed out by two rubs of the fairly self-explanatory houser '89 When Things Were Fine', the original having a drifty, Beloved-ish feel while Demi Riquismo gives the track a nitro boost for those peaktime moments.

Review: UK-based Kiwi duo Manuel Darquart serve up some quality deep house grooves on this new three-track, four-mix EP for London label Wolf Music. 'Jerry's Song' is up first and opens with calypso-style percussion before breaking out into what's effectively a homage to the deeper side of early 90s Italian house: the duo cite labels like Irma and Antima as key inspirations and that influence has never been so apparent! 'Del Soul' itself is a bassier variant on the same theme before Space Ghost gives it a beefed-up makeover with hints of Afro percussion, with 'The Vibe' then playing us out on a slightly mellower, late-night tip.

Review: As the title suggests, this multi-artist extravaganza from Wolf Music Recordings brings together fresh tracks from both label regulars and invited guests. Frequent contributor Medlar steps up first, wrapping late-90s garage organ sounds around a deep, sub-heavy bassline and locked-in house drums on 'Bandit', before Manuel Darquart joins the dots between contemporary deep house and turn of the 90s Italian dream house on 'Euphoria'. Jon Sable's 'Infinite Care' is a pleasingly spacey chunk of electro-tinged broken beat smothered in sunrise-ready deep house sonics, while Moon's 'Handmade', featuring Tabu, is a swinging, loose-limbed deep house workout full of soulful vocal snippets, squelchy synth-bass and eyes-closed chords.

Review: Originally released as an ultra-limited cassette, this compilation from the Blaq Numbers crew was created to raise money for a children's hospice in the label's home city of Leipzig. While titled Ordinary Pleasures, it contains some extraordinary material. Beginning with the blunted R&B of Albert Vogt and the head-nodding hip-hop of Imaginary Friend and Donnie Moustaki, the 19-track set slickly moves between synth-laden nu-boogie (George John), dense sample house (Last Nubian), future garage (KG), post-electro analogue house oddness (Sianso), psychedelic shufflers (Janthe), vocal trip-hop (Meggy & Malugi), Dam Funk style synth-funk (Dukus), piano-sporting proto-house-meets-deep house fusion (DJ Detox), sleazy late-night workouts (Jana Falcon) and superior deep house (Workshop, Lootbeg). Fantastic fare for a great cause.

Review: In its original form - released last year on the production pair's first Wolf Music EP - 'Keep It Dxy' was a lovingly colourful, saucer-eyed tribute to the turn-of-the-90s 'dream house' style of Italian deep house. It makes sense then that Wolf Music have asked Italy's finest original dream house producer, Don Carlos, to give it the remix treatment. His revision naturally retains most of the melodic dreaminess of the London-based duo's original mix, slowly building from a chunky, groove-based start towards piano-powered, loved-up house paradise, via the most stunning breakdown we've heard all year. In a word: delicious! The EP's other revision comes from the duo themselves and re-frames the track as a slow-motion, hip-hop tempo slab of glassy-eyed positivity. Ace!

Review: Confusingly, Manuel Darquart is not a single producer, but rather a duo comprised of future deep house heroes Louis Anderson-Rich and Sean Whittaker. Here they deliver their highest profile release to date, a stunningly positive and life-affirming collection of cuts on Wolf Music Recordings. The meat of the EP is a trio of tasty tracks that draw direct inspiration from the fluid, colourful, tactile and melodious sound of turn-of-the-90s Italian dream house. Our pick is Don Carlos-esque opener 'Keep It Dxy', though the more Balearic 'Miranda' and bubbly 'Parkour' are not far behind. The EP also boasts a fine bonus in the shape of Medlar's extra-percussive 'Timbales Dub Mix' of 'Parkour', a more intense but no less huggable interpretation tailor-made for peak-time dancefloors.

Review: Nightmares On Wax relaunched DMC's 'Back To Mine' series after a 10-year absence in January, and now next to slide into the selector's hot seat are chart-bothering pop/indie-dance duo Jungle. They've curated an impressively varied selection of downtempo grooves that runs the gamut from the contemporary jazz of Kamaal Williams and Mansur Brown to the psych-pop of LA hopefuls The Marias, the Balearic disco of Admin's 'Space Cadet', the lo-fi George Harrison vibes of Paul Cherry's 'Like Yesterday', the deep tropical house of DrumTalk's 'Red Haze' and the sunny Afro-funk of Inflo's 'No Fear'. A whimsical, engaging collection that's best served whole for maximum effect.
