Review: Mad Mats' Swedish label release their seventh annual label compilation, and suffice to say that whatever particular sub-shade of deep house floats your boat, you're unlikely to come away unsatisfied here. Like it soulful? Then check for Trevor Lawrence Jr's 'Tiptoe'. Like it jazzy? Try Prequel's 'Lefty'. Fiending for those old skool Jersey organ jams? Jamie 326 & Masalo's 'Red Light' will thrill you. Or if it's stripped-back 3am tracky shizzle you're after, allow us to point you in the direction of First Floor's 'You Dubn't Know', with its throbbing bass and hauntingly familiar vocal sample. Now you're talking!
Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk are proud to welcome back Marcel Lune for the release of his new LP. On this album, Lune continues to explore his fascination for melodies and composition and has created something that the label describes as "wonderfully refined and thrillingly accessible." with the young artist adding enough originality to stand out from the rest. From the soulful deepness of the title track or the funky Afrobeat style of "Thanks For Loitering", to the smooth and sexy nu-jazz broken beat of "Pinnacles": this guy has all bases covered. This is not only offering an unique twist on melodic and rhythmic house music, it also highlights Lune's growth as an artist.
Review: Mad Mats and Tooli have decided to celebrate five and a half years of their much-loved Local Talk label by gathering together a swathe of fresh cuts that best represent the label's eclectic approach to house music. It's a fine set, moving from the electric bass driven jazz-house of Art Of Tones' "Violation" to the UK garage influenced deep house skip of Hugo LX, via the rich, soulful house warmth of Sean McCabe, the synth-laden Herbie Hancock-isms of DJ Spinna and the celebratory disco-house heaviness of S3A's "Bob Morton". Chuck in superb contributions from Bodhi Satva, Simbad (as SMBD) and newcomer Marcel Lune, and you have a near essential collection of feel-good house moments.
Review: Fish Go Deep's Local Talk imprint return for more soulful house, this time in the form of Marcel Lune who presents the wonderful Sketches EP. Lune is a Bristol based producer who has had releases on the likes of Audio Doughnuts and Studio Rockers. On the Sketches EP, he gets off to a great start with the title track; a soulful and emotive deep house jam with rich melodies and strong synth leads. "Eat Good" stays on the soulful and emotive nu disco tip, with great use of sampled vocals over the top, deep bassline and addictive house organs. "Soul Music" goes for a soulful-afro house vibe reminiscent of Osunlade or Joe Claussell, but could equally appeal to fans of the Innervisions sound of old.
