Review: Following his stunning Back To The Balearics debut late last year Belfast conjurer returns with a follow up EP to his inaugural "Pastel Love". Each cut shimmers and sparkles with synth majesty and glistening grooves as the Tust associate explores the true roots of sun-kissed Balearic bliss. "Rise" struts on an insistent synth riff while a web of sub-melodies twinkle in the background, "Goldline" slows things right down and infuses the current LA beat flavours with White Isle charm, "Savannas" is a dubbed out slo-mo stomper while "Balcony Life" closes the show with a tight texture of subtle euphoria. Truly beautiful.

Review: The fledgling Back To The Balearics label launches in some style with a new EP from Maricopa, a Belfast-based producer with previous form on Tusk Wax, where he demonstrated his knack for melodic downtempo house music on a fine 12". Part one of the Pastel Love EP sees him continue to develop his sound, with five suitably slow tracks designed for sipping cold drinks to on a sunny terrace. Both "Masson" and the title track show Maricopa's skill at weaving complex melodies, while "Cellular" takes on a more tropical vibe thanks to its subtle steel drum melodies. "Neon Shoals" meanwhile offers something a little driving, threatening to lift off into cosmic stratospheres, while the chiming guitar chords of "Satellite" offer the EP's most horizontal moment, with delicate textures which ripple like the Adriatic Sea.

Review: Maricopa makes the smoothest summer tunes in the world, as heard on labels like Back To The Balearics and Berlin's La Luna: who released his debut album last year. On his Explorer EP, the second in their Cosmic Pint Keg series, Maricopa makes no exceptions. A journey through Mediterranean landscapes, across mountain tops in the midday heat to the refreshing sea breeze on a midnight beach. It's a thing of beauty; some are directed at the dance floor some almost chilled: horizontally. There's a bit of deep disco on the balearic tip like on "Cavernosa", the deeply soulful and emotive "Volcanic Glass" (having that almost Kompakt vibe about it) while the album's most chilled moment is also its most sublime: the dreamy and captivating "Yucca" (Islander Version).
