Review: Sometime Heist, Deeply Rooted and Wolf Music contrubitor Marina Trench is undoubtedly an artist on the rise. Here her more recent EP for Sweet State, December 2022's 'Impermeable En Ete', is given the remix treatment by a trio of scene heavyweights. Running Back founder Gerd Janson steps up first, cannily re-framing Hugo LX collaboration 'Ose' as a throbbing chunk of Balearic nu-disco rich in arpeggio-style synth bass, sun-bright melodic motifs and chords so dreamy you might get lost in them. Welsh producer Earl Jeffers delivers a wonderfully immersive, life-affirming mix of 'L'Orange' that blends deep house and loved-up turn-of-the-90s synth-pop sounds with dense tribal house drums, while Tatyana Jane turns 'Hirondelle' into a wonky, mind-mangling, experimental house treat.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Heist Recordings' annual Round-Up EPs, namely label regulars and selected guests remixing each other. JKriv and Peter Matson do a terrific job in turning Fouk's 'Money' into a squelchy, TB-303-fired slab of nu-disco/retro-futurist house fusion, before Makez re-imagines Mariana Trench's 'Wake Up' as a jazz-funk flavoured broken beat number and Fouk re-frames a Lore of the Samurai track as a gorgeous slab of house-not-house sunshine. Elsewhere, Mariana Trench gives Felipe Gordon's 'Highly Corrosive Acid' a driving, riff-heavy deep house spin, Felipe Gordon opts for a drowsy and eccentric mid-tempo house sound on his version of JKriv and Peter Matson's 'New Friend', and Lore of the Samurai's rework of Makez's 'City of All' is a hypnotic, tech-tinged treat.
Review: Since debuting on Deeply Rooted two years ago, Marina Trench has made a big impression. This confident and quietly impressive outing on Sweet State follows hot on the heels of acclaimed, ear-catching EPs on Wolf Music and, most recently, Heist. The heart of the EP is undoubtedly 'Free Mind', a rolling, woozy and thicket slab of early morning deep house goodness that's subsequently remixed by two fellow rising stars: Anna Wall and Cinthie. Wall reaches for deep sub-bass on a wonderfully hypnotic, after-hours techno take, while Cinthie transforms the track into a breezy, piano-sporting sunset house treat. Elsewhere, 'Something' is a drowsy vocal ambient soundscape and 'Overcome' is a warming, slow-motion downtempo number.
Review: Having previously impressed via must-check singles on Deeply Rooted and Wolf Music, Marina Trench has now joined Dam Swindle's Heist Recordings family. There's much to set the pulse a-flutter on her first EP for the Dutch imprint, from the tipsy electronic motifs, pots-and-pans deep house percussion and squelchy bass of opener 'Sunrise', to the touchy-feely early morning bliss of similarly inclined (and every bit as attractive) closing cut 'Wake Up'. Sandwiched in between you'll find the organ and trumpet-laden deep house bounce of 'Carry On' and the loved-up classic house vibes of 'Over There'.
Review: In 2019 Marina Trench impressed with a two-part debut single on Deeply Rooted. Wolf Music debut the "Waterside EP" marks her first single since and is every bit as alluring as its predecessor. The French producer aims for peak-time perfection on opener "Waterside", wrapping heady female vocal samples and fizzing electronics around a killer techno-funk groove, before slipping into classic deep house mode on the warm, groovy and piano-laden "Get In". You'll find even more bright and breezy piano motifs on tactile, retro-futurist house jam "Train Call", while closing cut "Straight" offers an even warmer, dreamier and more fluid take on turn-of-the-millennium American deep house.
