Massiande

Massiande has become one of the most captivating talents South America has produced for authentic House music.

An artist of multicultural roots, he was born in 1988 in Santiago, Chile, has lived most of his life to the side of US American people, has Dutch family heritage and his name derives from a Sierra Leone dialect. All of these global influences have had a great effect in the way he perceives and lives music.
Growing up as a profound and dedicated fan of Soul, Jazz and Disco; discovering House, a genre that connected these genres' roots with electronic experimentation, was a life turning point.

DJing since 2007, he is known for performing emotive and dynamic sets, with a moving soulful drive that resembles much of the spirit of New York, Chicago and Detroit pioneers.
After starting to focus on music production, 2013 brought his debut record "Heart Rushed Love" through German label Housewax, a record of classic vibes that received praise for its charm and character on underground scenes worldwide and, most notably, from House music artists in Chicago, including his personal hero, House maestro Larry Heard. Such a start would be a sign of great things to come.
Inspired by the same Chicago spirit, in 2015 the release of "Stand", through the prestigious MOS Recordings, represented a step further in his career as a producer, finding its place on the crates of DJs as diverse as Patrice Scott, Voiski, Apparat or Honey Soundsystem.

These days, Massiande brings a deeper and mature House sound which is reaching a wider audience, with his conceptual "Freedom" EP through UK's Phonica Records, the landmark "Yesterday, Today, Forever" EP on Jimpster's Freerange (considered by Atjazz "one of the best House releases of the year"), while also revealing a consistent variety of skills doing the Disco record "Dancing Stuff" for Midnight Riot (and reached #1 in Juno Download), and having signed in 2020 for the legendary Ibadan Records.

With a growing discography whose flair endures the test of time, Massiande's path thrives with a true passion for House that's appealing to both casual listeners and the most loyal purists of the genre around the world.

Dancing Is Life EP
Dancing Is Life (feat Diamondancer) - (5:48) 122 BPM Hot
Here Comes The House Music - (6:41) 126 BPM
Review: In his previous outings for labels including Groovin', M>O>S, Karankul, Housewax and Phonica White, Massiande has proved adept at delivering timeless, classic-sounding deep house jams that are as warm and welcoming as they are club-ready and floor-friendly. The four tracks showcased on the rising star's first Freerange are similarly minded and uniformly excellent. To kick things off, he adds mazy vibraphone solos and a fine spoken word vocal from Diamondancer over a genuinely groovy, dreamy and toasty deep house groove ('Dancing Is Life'), before ratcheting up the energy levels, low-end weight and sustained chords on future peak-time fave 'Here Comes The House Music'. 'I Feel It' combines the spacey, sci-fi sounds of Detroit with eyes-closed vocal snippets and pleasingly tactile house groove, while 'Focus' sounds like classic, Nu Groove-era Burrell Brothers given a tasteful 21st century makeover.

The Original Man - (6:38) 125 BPM
Everything - (6:32) 121 BPM
Review: We were blown away by Massiande's previous release, a fantastic four-track exploration of spiritually enriching deep house on Karakul, so hopes are naturally high for the producer's first release on Groovin Recordings. Opener 'The Original Man' sees him doff a cap to Kerri Chandler via bouncy, impactful house beats, undulating synth-string sounds, spacey riffs and undulating bass, while 'Everything' is a sumptuous slice of spacey, soulful and immersive deep house lusciousness powered forward by a killer analogue bassline. Elsewhere, title track 'Dreams' boasts chiming, sun-splashed melodies, positive-sounding chord sequences and a squelchy synth bassline, and 'Deeply' is as enveloping, atmospheric and groovy as you'd expect given its title.

Through The Walls - (6:17) 123 BPM Hot
Dub At The Beach - (7:48) 121 BPM
Review: On previous releases for the likes of Ibadan and Freerange, Massiande has proved adept at delivering high-grade deep house that's spacey, immersive, musically expansive and touched by the kind of effortless spirituality more often found on productions from the likes of Osunlade and Joe Clausell. This EP for Karakul continues in a similar vein, with the string-drenched, tech-tinged, TB-303 bass-driven title track - all tumbling synthesizer melodies and yearning melodies - being followed by the hypnotic dub house/deep house fusion of the excellent 'Dub at the Beach'. 'Remember When I First Met You' is a breezier and more sonically colourful chunk of ear-pleasing deep house pleasantness, while 'New Life' is a bouncy, string stab-sporting slab of deep house/Afro-house fusion.

Review: It may have been a pretty rubbish year in general, but Midnight Riot has done its best to keep us entertained via a wealth of disco and boogie-centric EPs. If you missed out on many of the label's 2020 treats, don't worry, because they've gathered together the best of their recent output on this epic compilation. Drawing on original nu-disco, revivalist disco, feel-good house, synth-heavy boogie sounds and gently tooled-up edits, highlights are predictably plentiful. Our picks include the summery soulful house goodness of 'Nothing But the Music (Hotevilla Mix)' by Platinum City, the nu-boogie brilliance of Qwestlife's remix of 'Savage' by Tommy Glasses, the loopy disco-house joy of Mottes 'The Horse Ride' and Yam Who's 'Full Vocal Mix' of Sam Shelley's sunshine disco number 'Groove It'.

Review: Sadly we fear more than love may be needed to fix 2020, but those plucky Midnight Rioters are on hand to give it a go anyway, as they serve up a 19-track compilation of disco, nu-boogie, disco-house and soulful house grooves, with the emphasis firmly on dancefloor thrills and belt-along vocals. Some of tracks are re-edits (Musta's 'I Like Dance', for instance, reworks Cheryl Lynn's classic 'Got To Be Real'), some are original productions; all are built with slinky hips and dancing feet in mind, and with cuts from the likes of Situation, Andre Espeut and Natasha Katt, not to mention Rony Breaker's soulful anthem-of-the-moment 'Change', disco dollies will be more than satisfied.

Review: When it comes to celebratory, life-affirming musical positivity, you can't beat Midnight Riot's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" compilation series, which gathers together a mixture of re-edits, reworks and original productions from the label's vast roster of artists. At 24 tracks deep it's a bit of an epic, though we can happily confirm that the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout. Our current favourites include the Redux Inc re-edit of Casa Blanco's P-funk flavoured hip-wiggler, "Funk & Dub With You", the rushing, piano-powered house bounce of "Got Me" by Ladies on Mars, label boss Yam Who's sparkling nu-boogie revision of Phil Jaimes' "My Sensitivity" and the deep, groovy '80s soul flex of Chevals' "Thank You For The Ride".

Dancing Stuff - (5:50) 122 BPM
Dancing Stuff (Moodena remix) - (6:41) 122 BPM Hot
Review: After releases on Phonica and Freerange, Chilean producer Massiande puts another uber-hip label notch on his production bedpost with a three-track, four-mix EP for Midnight Riot. The title track so convincingly works late 70s/early 80s tropes that only a distinctly 21st Century heft to the bottom end gives away its much more recent origins, while Moodena supplies a housier remix that tuffens up the beats while bringing the guitar to the fore. Elsewhere, 'The City' is all jazz piano licks and 3am deep house beats, while 'United We Funk' operates in more straight-up disco-house territory.

Review: If Mark Knight and Co. aren't busy enough celebrating Toolroom's big 15 year birthday at present (and its global parties in celebration of it), they've also found enough time for another mandatory volume in their esteemed Ibiza Underground series. With another collection of surefire hits and soon to be anthems that are sure to rock The White Isle this summer - this is all you need right here. A wide range of cuts (50 to be exact) that venture into darker territories come from the likes of New York duo Blondes on the fierce and broken "Quality Of Life" (Struction remix), the surprising addition of Scottish IDM wunderkind Lanark Artefax's "Touch Absence" (Intimidating Stillness mix), Dutch techno-bass merchant Martyn on the futuristic "Feel The Magnetism" and American retrovert Matrixxman on the tunnelling acid trip "Horizon". Rest assured that there's faire more typical of the label like Josh Butler, Franky Rizardo, Rick Wakley and birthday guests Booka Shade. For your convenience, the collection comes as two continuous mixes as well.

Yesterday, Today, Forever - (4:51) 121 BPM Hot
By My Side - (5:13) 124 BPM
Played by: Jimpster
Review: Chilean producer Massiande has had some great releases in recent times for top labels like Phonica White, M>O>S> and Housewax. You can bet that he's on point for his new one on Jimpster's Freerange imprint, where he serves up some more fine classic house perspectives. From the timeless Stateside bounce of "Yesterday Today Forever" that's jam packed full of evocative elements and will have you reminiscing of tunes back in '92. This is further strengthened by the powerful "By My Side" featuring some Kenny Bobien like vocals. Then, Massiande again captures the soul and warmth of classic American house music through a modern lense.
