Review: Berlin-based Italian Massimilliano Pagliara's most recent album, last year's excellent See You In Paradise, has been given the remix treatment, with the resultant rubs being released over a series of must-check EPs. This first volume opens with a pair of predictably impressive versions of Coloray and Fort Romeau collaboration 'Reset' by Norwegian superstar Prins Thomas. His full vocal 'Remix' is a typically epic blend of space disco sonics, rubbery dub disco bass, Italo-disco electronics and hands-in-the-air energy, while the accompanying 'Disko Dub' offers similar thrills without the sing-along sections. To round off a fine package, Hard Ton re-imagine 'Snap Out' as a nostalgic, rush-inducing fusion of warehouse-ready 1990s piano house and glassy-eyed Cocktail D'Amore electronic disco.

Review: Acclaimed Italian DJ/producer Massimiliano Pagliara returns to Munich's Permanent Vacation with his latest effort titled See You In Paradise. This is the Panorama Bar resident's fourth full-length and features a wide selection of moods and grooves produced in the lockdown period of spring 2020, and very much centred in classic disco and house sounds as always. The fine array of collaborations are definitely the highlights; whether it's the widescreen sunset balearica of "Half-time Dreams" with INIT, the late night mood music of "Reset" featuring Fort Romeau & Coloray, as well as the dark disco chug of "Pepper On The Tongue" with Ombra International chief Curses, and the moody atmosphere of "See You In Paradise" acting as a backdrop to Vanessa's breathtaking vocals - together with Pagliara they created something that's more than the sum of its parts.

Review: Dresden label Uncanny Valley's big name supporters include the likes of Jimpster, Steve Bug, Scuba and Ripperton, which gives you an idea of the kind of leftfield-leaning deep house and techno to expect from this 10th birthday compilation. Big names may be in short supply but quality certainly isn't, with the album's 18 full-length tracks ranging from RJ's floaty, dreamy opener 'Nie' to the acid throb of Iron Curtis's 'Ensuite', and from the jazzy bruk beat-isms of Lake People's 'Roaming The Streets' to the psychedelic small hours deepness of Charlotte Bendiks' 'Pasco', with a DJ mix from Conrad Kaden tying the whole collection together nicely.

Review: To celebrate notching up 50 releases, Uncanny Valley offered up a septet of colour-coded EPs featuring never-heard-before cuts from its growing roster of artists. With that campaign finished, they've now collected together all of those tracks on one suitably epic compilation, All Colors Are Beautiful. It's a pleasingly positive, life-affirming and kaleidoscopic collection all told, with the likes of Lauer, Jules Etienne, Johannes Albert, Cuthead and Basic Soul Unit taking it in turns to deliver cheery, synth-heavy cuts that variously join the dots between deep house, nu-disco, synth-pop, proto-house, jacking acid, crunchy electro, Motor City techno, ghetto-tech and glassy-eyed late-night sleaze. The results are uniformly excellent, making this one of the most essential compilations of 2020.

Review: As you'd expect, the sixth colour-coded EP in Uncanny Valley's 50th release series boasts an impressive line-up of artists, all of whom have pulled out the stops to make their contribution count. For proof, check the rushing, riff-sporting, rave-era revivalism of Cuthead's acid-flecked opener, "Party Chords", the warm and woozy, Rhodes-laden head-nodding beats of Dererstuben's "Iwesu Yewisu", and the wild organ riffs and chunky grooves of Pantera Krause's bustling house jam "The Naked Now". Or, for that matter, the sample-laden, jazz-tinged deep house roll of Daniela La Cruz's "When You Go All In And Wait", and the body-popping Balearic nu-disco warmth of Massimiliano Pagliano's luscious "Sunset Funk". As the old clich? goes, this is genuinely all killer, no filler.

Review: Feel Live is southern Italian DJ/producer Massimiliano Pagilara's third full-length for Frankfurt institution Live At Robert Johnson, following up 2011's Focus On Infinity and With One Another - released in 2014. Recorded between Los Angeles, Portland and his base in Berlin as well as at airports and on intercontinental flights, it is his most playful and imaginative work to date -featuring a variety of bold and stylish sonic narratives. Featuring vocals by Private Agenda (the lo-slung "Winter In Los Angeles"), Peaking Lights' Indra Dunis (the neon-lit disco antics of "Trust The Direction In The Wind") and the inimitable Fort Romeau on the tripped-out chilltronica of "Floating Room".

Review: Live At Robert Johnson's first Lifesaver compilation, released in 2013, offered an essential snapshot of the infamous club-turned-label's expanding roster, delivering tracks from respected heads and relative newcomers alike. This second installment ploughs a similar furrow, on one hand showcasing woozy dancefloor gear from familiar favourites (see Roman Flugel's formidable, sci-fi tinged analogue jam, "Tender Hooligan", and the beatbox electro-meets-spiraling synth-scapes of Lauer's "Language"), and genuinely impressive music from lesser-known names. In the latter category you'll find some genuine highlights, including the deliciously Balearic electronics of Chinsaski ("Futuresex"), and the Uncanny Valley style, semi-organic deep house chug of Benedikt Frey.

Review: It's been a fair few years now since Italian producer Massimiliano Pagliara, famed for his analogue-heavy blends of bright synthesizer melodies, pop hooks, Chicago house grooves and robust acid lines, relocated from Italy to Berlin. It's obviously been a fruitful move, as this second full-length - his first dropped in 2011 - is mostly made up of collaborations with locally based producers. Norwegian exile Telephones lends a hand on the deliciously Balearic "Long Distance Call", with one-time NYC resident Lee Douglas recalling his TBD work with Justin Vandervolgen on the murky acid assault that is "Fall Again". Elsewhere, you'll find a range of moods, ranging from the enveloping power house of "Native Tribes of Jupiter" (a hook-up with Credit 00), to the dreamy synth-pop of "With One Another".

Review: Live at Bobby J's serve up this remix shaped addendum to Mr Pagliara's excellent thick set long player Focus for Infinity, with mainstays Tuff City Kids and B.H.F.V. at the controls. Anyone who's checked a Tuff City Kid production in recent times will be getting a bit excited at the prospect of a remix proper as well as some bonus acid endeavours from Lauer and Janson. Rightly so too - in their hands "A Wrong Chance" gets moulded into a heaving mass of cavernous thumping house brilliance that constantly switches between moods. Just wait for the truly haunting treatment of crystalline chords to arrive! The Acid Bonus Riddim version is the more basic variant, stripping it down to let the bass do the talking before the acid takes effect. The presence of B.H.F.V. is a welcome return for the duo who slipped out the excellent throwback electro jams on ET 01-06 earlier in the year, and their take nine minute on "In Order Of More Depth" applies a similarly bleep heavy approach amidst expansive surges of Technicolor light. Big tip for the heads!
