Review: The inimitable Dungeon Kru return to Liondub International and get us all gassed up with 'Butane', a deliciously broad and confident collection that slices across subgenres with razor sharp funk. Four originals, one remix; highlights come in all shapes and sizes from the dusty horn-heaving 'Bounty Hunters' to the steppy, grizzling, high-frequency blast-off that is the title track. Loaded with a firing remix from the currently unstoppable Maurizzle, it's another crucial dispatch from Liondub's camp.
Review: Putting the international into Liondub International, the New York label brings serial collaborators German Maurizzle and Luxembouger Master Error together for this epic five-track funk-up. The big headline track 'Fever' and the sing-along 'Goodbye' could well have a great effect in festivals this summer while tracks like the thundering bassline behemoth 'Shadow Technique' and the anthemic emo blasts and builds of 'Holding' will do serious club damage. A highly significant connection.
Review: Cave has rapidly become a must-follow imprint ever since its launch, and Maurizzle has taken to it like a duck to water. This single is his first release on the label and The Wonder maintains the high standard we've come to expect from the producer. It's rough and tumble rolling goodness, and 'Wonder' represents this mission statement with devastating clarity, as resonant synths give way to penetrating percussion and a growling, tendril-like bassline. 'Obsession' has a wicked new-school vibe to the drum line but it's bassline is as futuristic as they come; vicious bulges pushing left and right with a visceral sense of movement. Potent, potent stuff.
Review: Maurizzle, who we're pretty sure isn't the D&B alias of Snoop Dog, is putting out an EP some of his mates on Audio Overload, featuring an original single from himself and then multiple remixes. 'BadBwoy Sound' is a bit Souped-Up in its basic but effective melody and stabby back end, it's the sort of tune you'd hear at Boomtown and it's definitely the sort of tune that would go down well. The best remix comes from Jedi, who flips the original into a KoTR-esque stomper with big 'ol bassline and an even bigger sense of dread. Super hans style.
