Review: Remixes for days in the haus with Pre-Rolled Joints Vol 2: Remix Collection, Pt. 2 by Unknown To The Unknown. Kicking of with a sultry Kelis vibe in Ludwig A.F's remix of "Sweat It Out", other highlights include Hashman Deejay doing the business on a Ruf Dug number, Andras turning over some proto-techno on Bell Towers, with Shed going all time on UTTU boss man's "Bit Too Deep". Willie Burns drops a spooky remake of Max's D's legendary "High Life", next to some reliable Legowelt wares, a Roza Terenzi rework of Assembler Code and final dose of Fantastic Man who goes deep with a luscious mix of DJ Shark's "Closer".

Review: Originally released in 2015 on wax but now finally available on digital, Future Times expanded the sound and vision of the label with part three in their compilation series. It's an all star cast on here, with the compilation opening with the dynamic killer "Junk Funk" by DC newcomer OV then Israel's finest Juju & Jordash with "Soggy Bottom" next where they get their hypnotic piano throb on. Label boss Max D's "Octopus" follows with an improvised, kinetic bang. Elsewhere label stalwarts Beautiful Swimmers serve up "Primo", a thick chunk of industrial pop for the freaks and of course BRSTL boss Shanti Celeste and her monster cut "Strung Up", a savage tune for the deejays that mixes a bit of her home town with classic electro.

Review: Boost is Future Times boss man Andrew Field-Pickering's third solo album under his familiar Max D alias and the seven tracks stand up as a fine example of the musical freedom currently running through the DC-based artist's veins. Like us, you've probably played the crushing, freeform 808 cruncher "Rhythm Operator" to death on the FT SoundCloud but we are happy to report the other six tracks are just as daring! As impressive as previous long players for RAMP and RVNG were, Boost feels bolder, a fuller expression of Field-Pickering's undoubted musical talent and less beholden to any particular dancefloor trope. Mood Hutter Jack J, Jordan GCZ, Motion Graphics and Benedek all contribute to Boost, but what really shines through is Max D's beaming smile behind those drum machines. Ps we hope this album is named after our favourite chocolate bars!

Berceuse Heroique Presents The B Sides
Max D - "Chewy" - (6:22) 123 BPM
Beneath - "WIP" - (6:11) 84 BPM Hot
Healing Force Project - "Cloak Device" - (8:13) 93 BPM
Review: It's not exactly clear what Berceuse Heroique mean by calling this release The B Sides but either way the music coming out of the grooves is as wayward as ever. Max D is on fine once more with the snaking surreality of "Chewy", reveling in skittering slithers of drum machine percussion and a dense bath of vocal murmurings. Beneath, on the otherhand, slips comfortably into his preferred style of tightly coiled, UK funky infected murk that delightfully toys with industrial sound design. To cap off an adventurous release Healing Force Project drops a virulent brand of experimental acid that keeps things weighed down by oppressive processing with percussion flying out in non-linear configurations.

High Life
High Life - (6:16) 126 BPM
High Life (Willie Burns remix) - (6:39) 62 BPM Hot
Review: Andrew Field-Pickering seems to be on a roll at the moment. Following last year's brilliantly madcap drum workouts under the Dolo Percussion moniker, he returns to the more familiar Max D guise for an outing on the always-impressive Unknown to the Unknown label. "Highlife" is in many ways typical of his recent output, with pitched-down jungle drums underpinning typical tropical synths and a bouncing, off-kilter bassline. It's hard to pin down, but impressive nonetheless. Willie Burns remixing, turning the left-of-centre original into a wide-eyed chunk of African-influenced tropical deep house. It's a little saner than the original, but no less potent.
