Producers Sean Smith and Tim McAlister (AKA MC Edits) pop up on the long-running Smooth Edits series with a trio of reworks of pleasingly off-piste cuts. Take "Funky Disco Music", for example. In parts driving, groovy and upbeat, it takes a horn-heavy African disco-funk track (and no, you won't know the original) and gives it a sympathetic and perfectly crafted rearrangement. "Universal Love" is equally as impressive, teasing out a formidable slap bass groove before dropping into a sweet, soulful, string-laden boogie jam. As for "K-Pasa", it seems to be a rare example of Mexican funk. It's mad as a box of frogs, but also tons of fun.
