DJ/producer and songwriter Megatronic has been immersed within the music scene for over 20 years, fortifying her unmatched talent and know-how around the industry. From songwriting and playing guitar at the age of 17, by the time Megatronic was in her mid-20s she had formed the group Black Cherry, a British/French electro pop band, and went on to tour the world playing for stages at Glastonbury Festival, SXSW, Balaton Sounds Festival and V Festival. After taking on DJing more seriously in 2013, she eventually moved to Middle East in 2016 where she became an integral organizer and activist within the male-dominated alternative club scene in the region. Her DJ sets pull from her lived experiences across the world as she balances colorful global sounds within various electronic, Latin, African and Arabic rhythmic traditions.
Review: Dubai-based Londoner Megane Quashie has been doing her thing as Megatronic as some time, though this expansive outing on Razor 'N' Tape is undoubtedly her highest profile release to date. There's much to enjoy from start to finish, with the producer-vocalist brilliantly blending elements of deep house, Afro-house, soul, smooth nu-disco and jazz-funk on such unearthly delights as 'Organic' (where her spoken word vocals catch the ear), Stavros hook-up 'The Word' and the jazzy deep house masterclass that is 'Been Thinkin'. Jimpster remixes the latter, opting for an even deeper and more electronic sound, before Kiko Navarro smothers 'The World' in undulating acid lines, bouncy beats and warming electric piano chords. To round off a strong package, Kurco delivers a jaunty, elastic and pleasingly deep take on 'Organic'.
