Melinki

Melinki, also known as Sonny Symes, is a Drum & bass DJ & Producer from the South Coast of the United Kingdom.
His production has gained attention from the likes of Noisia, Friction, Dj Marky, Kasra, Kings of the Rollers, Bryan Gee and many more.
At the end of 2020 Melinki released his debut album ‘The S.T.L project’ on Fokuz recordings to critical acclaim.
Since he has released a slew of singles on labels such as Sofa sound, Spearhead, Innerground and more.
While Melinki has grafted away in the studio, he also has a string of successes as a DJ under his belt including winning competitions for Hospitality, Dillinja's Valve Recordings & Drum and Bass Arena as well as live performances on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.
Melinki also owns and manages his own imprint called Four Corners Music that is fast approaching its 100th release and has gained support and admiration from people all across the globe. Since its inception in 2017 it has established itself as one of the most respected new labels in the scene.
Melinki has just signed his debut release with V recordings and has many more projects set for release on some exciting labels in 2023 as well as continuing to work with V recordings, Innerground and his own label Four Corners Music.

Review: Melinki and Shodan on Rebel Music? Now this is a serious meeting of the minds! Proper adult tackle, too, as you'd expect. 'Revenant' is all about the boa constrictor like bassline slugging around the gaff, prone to crush at any minute, while 'I Don't Need' takes us more of a rampant junglised spree, all turbo breaks and a gritty sense of urgency. Finally we hit the sonic skids with 'Bleak'. Proper grumbly, grizzly moody drum & bass for late night basements. High grade.

Review: As always with the legendary V Recordings, we are in for a certified thrill ride here as we dive head first into a wash of bassy goodness from both Melinki & Macca as the pair unveil their brand new project. The title track sees them jump immediately into a three way collaborative endeavour however as the knuckle dusting bass riffs and crunchy sub thrusts of 'Bad Trip' sees Alibi join the party for an explosive introduction. From here, 'Murder Situation' then looms upon the horizon, slicing together sizzling reesey synthesizer textures with high intensity drum skips and constantly shifting backdrop for a very tidy sonic experience. Finally, 'Raptor' is set loose, a blooming soundscape of 80's like synth slides, cascading into a thunderous chorus of booming 808 pulses, all tied together with some tidy breaksy sampling. Exceptional work.

Review: Melinki has been dishing out the goods on labels like Fokuz for a few years now, as well as running his own 'Four Corners' imprint, but he hasn't done many projects like this. The S.T.L project is a full, album length collection of collaborations with producers all over the scene. T>I is on remix duties for previous Melinki banger Dancehall Sound, flipping it into a spaciously destructive bit of work, whilst HLZ is present on the sub-heavy and drum-excellent 'Nemea'. Softer notes abound on 'It's Over' featuring Macca & Maverick Soul, a soft and deftly rolling vocal slice of liquid action, a trend repeated on 'What's Real' with Low:r. This is an expression of scene strength and an excellent one at that.

Review: U Wot Blud? Is the UK's most forward-thinking bass label, and when they decide to celebrate something, they don't mess about. The occasion in particular here is the label's 25th release, and to mark it they have prepared this 52(!) track compilation. It's a flippin' rollercoaster ride of bass shenanigans, with some of the many highlights including the trancey, leftfield trap of "Hater" by Wizard, the neon-flecked bass pulses of "Blackmail VIP" by Aliii and the techy-disco fizz of "Nonsense Skank" by 94 Bliss. Best take a month off and get totally lost in this jungle of bass gems.

Review: Here U Wot Blud have reached out all the way to Austria, home of rising star Robsi Mantoura. Having spent some time in the UK absorbing the bassy sounds of Julio Bashmore and his ilk, he now gives us EPs like Spread Love. "You & I" is warm, skippy house with extra sprinkles of garage and wobble for good measure. Pelikann toughens it up with starker snare rolls and chants whilst Melinki goes for orchestral DnB and Pavv opts for straight up wobble. Finally the original "Love" is more soulful with nods to 90s garage and even some sax!
