Review: Confusingly, Merv is not one guy, but a duo, Brian Oldenborg and Jan Christiansen. To add to the confusion, an earlier version of the act used to number another two producers in the line-up. Irre-spective of the various personnel changes, there is no question that Merv makes sublime dub tech-no and previous outings featured on labels like Styrax Leaves and Minimood. This release builds on that impressive back catalogue. "Spell" is deep, dreamy and layered, the frosty chimes of winter rubbing up against a robust kick for comfort. "Traffic" is more gritty and features a surging bass to the fore as the sound aesthetic moves towards the scuffled and scratchy.
