Review: Glasweigan odd couple Mia Dora create dark and moody tech house for secret basement parties and the after-hours alike, as proven by their appearance on Optimo Trax and on first track "Made Frames". "Grace" is pretty epic with those brooding strings and analogue synth bleeps going head to head over a rusty 909 rhythm. "Cache Of Money" sees them team up with London's Drums Of Death on this dark and dirty exercise in analogue absurdity. There's a handy accapella version too that isolates those seriously creepy vocals.

Review: Those who've been paying attention to JD Twitch's sets over the last 12 months will undoubtedly have heard "Un.sub", the title track from this excellent EP from former Moda Black combo Mia Dora. A wild combination of relentless cowbells, bass-heavy bottom-end and warped electronics, it sounds like techno from another dimension. The rest of the EP is similarly impressive, from the bumpin' late night house flex of "Raw Kiss", to the surging techno of "Et Le Mein". The EP also features a woozy, off-kilter collaboration with Glaswegian veteran MASH ("Feathers"), which laces a kooky spoken female vocal over sparse beats, foreboding bass and atmospheric electronics.

Review: Mark Knight's label brings together some of the sounds that were showcased over the course of the ADE. Basement Jaxx kick start the compilation with the stomping disco house of "Never Say Never", while Harry Romero shows that he's not just a US house head. Working with Doorly, he drops "The Truth", a tough techno track, led by heavy claps. The techno influence lingers on Maceo Plex's "Conjure Superstar", which features an unusual combination of rave sirens and sublime, 808 State-style synths. As is the case in the wider electronic world, this reinvention of the past is in abundance on Amsterdam 2014 and apart from Plex's track, the most impressive contribution is Dosem's "Chase the Link", which sounds like a particularly dark version of vintage Lil Louis.

Review: Since launching in 2012, Jaymo and Andy George's Moda Black label - an offshoot of their already successful Moda label - has steadily risen to become one of the most well-regarded house labels around. The imprint's style - a tactile, atmospheric blend of tech-house, deep house, bass and woozy, funk-fuelled big room grooves - seems to have a knack of capturing the zeitgeist. Here, the two label owners deliver the third instalment in their annual mix series, showcasing tracks released by the imprint in the last 12 months. Smooth, accessible and entertaining, with plenty of standout cuts (see the warehouse acid of Sidney Charles' "Wax Digger '88" and Hauswerks & Saul Summers' sweaty "Just Want U"), Moda Black Volume III is a fitting celebration of a label whose stock continues to rise.

Review: Glasgow's Mia Dora have been made a big impression over the last 12 months, following a string of on-point EPs and a much-played remix of Roots Manuva for Big Dada. Here, they return to original home Moda Black with another chunk of melancholy peaktime house - all twinkling melodies, robust bottom end and woozy, touchy-feely, pitched-down vocals. DJ T takes the best bits of the original - the chords, melodies and vocals - and layers them on top of a chunky, bass-heavy new groove on his rework, while label bosses Jaymo and Andy George give the original a total overhaul. Their interpretation - fluid, energetic, deep and bassy, with some delicious new strings - is arguably the best thing on the EP.

Review: Glaswegian producers Mia Dora are the latest combo to be signed to Jaymo and Andy George's hyped Moda Black imprint. This first EP showcases their trademark style, a woozy mix of thickset tech-house low-end, woozy deep house synths and R&B vocal cut-ups. The moody "The Awesome Sauce" sets the tone, coming on like a future anthem for those who like their beats crunchy and their grooves smooth. "Occam's Razor" sounds like a sweaty hoe-down between Waze & Odyssey and Eats Everything, while "Mantis" sees them flexing their rave muscles with a thoroughly debaunched rinse-out. "Half A Devil", meanwhile, is woozy, leftfield and altogether slightly odd - but rather fine with it.

Review: Bristol-based rising stars Jaymo and Andy George are regular collaborators. Here, they join forces again to launch Moda Music offshoot Moda Black with a compilation of previously unreleased material. For those interested in the new wave of British and European house, it should be an essential purchase. Some of the duo's own Bristol pals make an appearance, with strong contributions from Lukas (the darting "Best In Show") and Eats Everything & Idiotproof (an excellent, peaktime-friendly remix of The 2 Bears). Elsewhere, highlights include a grandiose new cut from the duo themselves, an organ-heavy garage-meets-cocaine house banger from Disclosure, and a cacophonous rinse-out from Hot Since 82.
