Review: Glitterbox knows how to throw a party, and "Glitterbox Archives Vol 4" proves it once again. This EP collects four previously unreleased, dancefloor-tested gems, each offering a unique flavour of the label's signature sound. Kicking off with a bang is The Shapeshifters' "Try My Love (On For Size) (The Rub Dub)". This extended version of the already infectious disco anthem dives deeper into its groove, layering dubby effects and pulsating basslines that will have you moving right away. Next up, Michael Gray and Kelli Sae's "You're Gonna Make Me Dub Somebody Else" takes things down a notch. The "dub" moniker lives up to its name, stripping away some of the original's funk elements and emphasizing the hypnotic rhythm section. Kelli Sae's sultry vocals remain captivating, while the dub treatment creates a more introspective and atmospheric aura. Art Of Tones & Inaya Day's "Give My Love (Piano Dub)" is a revelation. This stripped-down version showcases the song's beautiful piano melody and Inaya Day's powerful vocals in a whole new light. Rounding out the EP is Qwestlife's "Hit It Off (Babert Remix)". Italian house maestro Babert injects his signature energy into the track, transforming it into a driving house anthem. Teni Tinks' vocals are chopped and looped, adding a playful touch to the infectious groove. This one is sure to get the crowd moving and leave them wanting more. A sparkly feast for disco devotees!

Review: Last year, long-serving British house producers Seamus Haaji and Michael Gray joined forces with vocalist Phoebe Edwards for 'You Bring The Sun', a sparkling and life-affirming burst of summery house fun featuring piano house riffs aplenty and gospel-influenced choruses. Now the track has been given a 2023 tweak by fellow UK veteran - and Sheffield's most soulful house producer - Nick Moss AKA Groove Assassin. He opts for a 'classic' (as he puts it) sound on his two versions, reaching for synth strings, live bass, percussion, guitar, Fender Rhodes keys and piano while retaining the swing and energy associated with his particular brand of house music. His full vocal 'radio edit' (track one) is a festival-friendly sing-along in the making, while his longer 'Classic Instrumental' is a cowbell-powered peak-time treat.

Review: Aside from his old Essex buddy Dave Lee, few UK house producers have been as prolific (and successful) since the early 1990s as former Full Intention and Hustlers Convention member Michael Gray. He's an absolute master at making addictive, feelgood house music laden with memorable hooks and thickset grooves. His latest single, featuring the seductive vocals of relative newcomer Tatiana Owens, is another winner - a surging, rising disco-house treat that boasts a seriously squelchy synth bassline, stirring strings, bouncy house pianos and choruses that are so strong and hooky that you'll find yourself singing them in the shower. Gray naturally works the key instrumental elements - the piano riffs in particular - in his accompanying dub mix, where vocals samples within the breakdowns help keep the energy high and the build-and-release structure incredibly effective.

Review: When it comes to celebratory, life-affirming musical positivity, you can't beat Midnight Riot's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" compilation series, which gathers together a mixture of re-edits, reworks and original productions from the label's vast roster of artists. At 24 tracks deep it's a bit of an epic, though we can happily confirm that the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout. Our current favourites include the Redux Inc re-edit of Casa Blanco's P-funk flavoured hip-wiggler, "Funk & Dub With You", the rushing, piano-powered house bounce of "Got Me" by Ladies on Mars, label boss Yam Who's sparkling nu-boogie revision of Phil Jaimes' "My Sensitivity" and the deep, groovy '80s soul flex of Chevals' "Thank You For The Ride".

Review: Since launching in 2018, Midnight Riot's gospel-fired "Take It To Church" compilation series has proved hugely popular, hence this third volume of re-edits, remixes and sample-heavy original productions. As usual, there's much to set the pulse racing from start to finish, with highlights including the jazz-funk fired soulful house bump of Opolopo's remix of "Follow Me" by Sense of Sound Singers, the gospel disco/disco-house fusion of Sarah Dash's "Something Inside (DJ Spen & Reelsoul Remix)", the rubbery goodness of Carlton Low's 1980s sounding "Peace, Love, Happiness", the gospel-boogie brilliance of Jack Tennis's filter-heavy "Won't You" and the gospel scalpel science that is Divine Situation's superb "Goin' On" re-edit.

Review: As the year comes to a close, labels are naturally offering up celebratory compilations showcasing their strongest releases of 2019. The latest comes from Midnight Riot, a prolific imprint that rarely fails to serve up the fieriest contemporary disco heat. As you'd expect, the 26-track selection includes a blend of superb original productions (the nu-disco soul warmth of Jack Tyson Charles' "Glory", Alton Edwards sweaty, synth-bass propelled boogie-house gem "I Just Wanna Spend Time With You", the swirling disco headiness of Arthur Baker's "Reachin' Out") and re-edits/reworks (Dr Packer's gospel boogie revision "The Power", C Da Afro's disco-funk slammer "Party Purpose" and the suitably celebratory "Boogie On Time" by Ladies On Mars). As you'd expect, the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout.

Review: If you haven't been keeping up with UK disco/funk/boogie merchant Andy Williams AKA Yam Who?'s recent work then here's a chance to get up to speed, as Midnight Riot present the first volume in a two-part collection of his 2019 output. Despite the title, there's only one original production in this set, Jaegerossa collab 'This Man's In Love With You': the rest of the album comprises remixes for the likes of Michael Gray, Jaki Graham, Los Charly's Orchestra and Moussa Clarke, and suffice to say any cuts haven't yet been on heavy rotation at the likes of Horse Meat Disco and Glitterbox soon will be! Contemporary mirrorball vibes at their best.

Review: Midnight Riot serve up 18 tracks that encapsulate the house sound of Ibiza in 2019, with elements of tech-house and (nu) disco and a sprinkling of good old-fashioned vocal podium belters. Arther Baker's opening 'Reachin' (as remixed by Hi-Fi Sean and Yam Who?) is one example of the latter, while techier, struttier pleasures can be found on Benjamin Ferreira's ludicrously funky bass workout 'Aerosol'. Manc veterans DJ Paulette and Chris Massey join forces on another funk-fuelled rumbler, 'Sheroes', while deeper, more soulful vibes await on Jack Tyson Charles's 'Glory'. And if you like the sound of those there are 14 more very playable nuggets from the likes of Birdee, Lenny Fontana and Natasha Kitty Kat to choose from!

The latest edition in the imprint's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" series offers up no less than 25 tried-and-tested cuts to pep up your DJ sets. In keeping with the label's party-starting ethos, there's a good mix of disco-fired house cuts (see Michael Gray's "24/7 People"), revivalist disco-boogie (Qwestlife's remix of Nick Reach Up's "Dreaming"), filter-sporting boogie-house (Ladies On Mars), top-notch disco re-edits (Twism's "What I Know"), Tiger & Woods style loop jams (Motte's "Darkroom Boogie") and party-staring 21st century disco-funk ("Chance" by Rees).
