Review: Michael Klein has had quite a run lately, with releases on Second State and We Are The Brave. Fans of the techno producer will be happy to hear that this form continues with Shizo. The title track revolves around a barrelling rhythm and crystalline synths, like Mathew Jonson on steroids. In contrast, "Ponzu" is closer to the Fachwerk style. Relentless percussion, insistent stabs and a swung rhythm make for a potent combination. The label has also commissioned a series of remixes. Industrialyzer turns both tracks into lean, linear club workouts, with the firing percussion and chord builds of his take on "Shizo" impressing most. Meanwhile, Confidential Recipe drops a dubby take on "Shizo" and Subradeon's version of "Ponzu" is a chord-heavy Detroit-style makeover.

Review: Michael Klein has released on a slew of well-known labels, including Cocoon and Second State, and now he expands his catalogue to include Arkham Audio. The title track is a grimy affair, with dense drums and a rumbling bass providing the basis for tortured riffs and loose percussion. On "Red", Klein ups the tempo; powered by hissing hats and insistent snares, its angular rhythm is both potent and hypnotic. "105" is just as impactful; built on rough kicks, it resounds to layer upon layer of steely percussion. Label owner Cri De Coeur teams up with Erratum to deliver a slamming take on "105", while Dustin Zahn turns "Red" into a stripped back, propulsive workout.
Review: Hot on the heels of his No Mercy release for Second State, Michael Klein delivers another hard hitting but distinctive release. In its original form, "Nokaut" is an intense techno banger that features a nagging buzzsaw bass, spiralling acid lines and a hypnotic vocal sample, while Klein's edit offers up a distinctive take on the track. More stripped back than the original but still jacking, its dense percussion houses the vocal sample, cut to shreds, and is redolent of classic minimal techno. "Scream" uses a different approach, with doubled-up claps supporting a clanging rhythm and deft percussion, while Klein again favours a visceral approach with the grinding groove and snappy percussion of "Slow Sucker".

Review: Responsible for dance floor burners like "Der Sturm Kommt" and "Hoisin", Michael Klein was one of last year's most impressive artists on Second State. Based on his latest EP, that status is unlikely to change. The title track is a mean, lean acid track, with its central sawtooth riff and rolling snares designed for peak-time use. On "Joker Smile", he opts for a somewhat more subtle approach, with a rolling bass and insistent percussion underpinning grimy riffs that keep building and building. Klein remains in the same territory for "Sticky", where dense drums and rasping hi hats support ominous, hardcore-inspired riffs.

Review: Michael Klein has enjoyed a productive year, and rounds it off with this slamming release on Andr? Kronert's label. "Taste" has a juggernaut rhythm at its heart, which is supported by dense, thundering bass and rickety percussion. On "Whisper", he ups the tempo and intensity levels to deliver a scuffled rhythm peppered with discordant bleeps, sounding like a malfunctioning robot. Klein changes tact on "Touch", a rolling affair that resounds to crispy hi hats and deep space synth lines, while he signs off with a more forceful track, as "Smell" unravels to the sound of insistent tones and a dramatic, filtered groove.

Review: Following 2019's Yuzu, Klein returns to Cocoon with this powerful techno EP. The title track is a riotous affair, with wild acid lines unfolding over a pumping groove and punchy drums as Klein makes a nod to the menacing synths of Frankfurt's past. In contrast, "My Castle" is a lean, rolling affair, with a tight, rolling groove populated with steely percussion and visceral, filtered stabs. But as "Their Kingdom" and "Noises" both demonstrate, old school influences are never too far away, and Klein drops tranced out hooks that swirl over rolling techno rhythms and tough drums - exactly the kind of material you'd expect Sven Vath to spin.

Review: The title of Michael Klein's latest release for Second State is 'the storm is coming', but it will have you running for the dance floor rather than for shelter. This is largely down to Klein's dynamic approach to club techno; the title track resounds to a cacophony of rolling snares, wild rave siren riffs and a robotic vocal intoning the title in German. The sound is just as thrilling on "Wasser", with Klein unleashing the kind of grainy bass that resembles that great techno-trance producer Zombie Nation, while on "Wenn Du Schreist", Klein takes the listener down a dark, rave-fuelled direction.

Review: Cocoon's Dots & Pearls series has been successful in putting new artists side by side with more established acts - and volume six is no exception. With a focus on the deeper side of house and techno, this instalment features "Origo", a rumbling electronic groove from emerging Diynamic / Watergate act Adana Twins and Frankfurt producer Fabe with a melodic tech-house cut, "Call Of Origin". Representing the more established acts is Eduardo de la Calle, who drops a trippy, dubbed out minimal house track, "I'm Losing My Mind", featuring Romina Cohn on vocals and Michael Klein's rave-heavy "Continuation". However, it's one of the new kids who steals the show, with Radu Dracul delivering the deep, bleep-laden techno of "Spectrae".

Review: Having put out music for labels like Second State and Micro.fon, Michael Klein now finds his way to Cocoon with this dynamic two-tracker. The title track is sure to be a big-room sensation; featuring wave upon wave of acid and a relentless, grinding riff, this wild sonic fusion is underpinned by a hammering, percussive rhythm. It's exactly the kind of track that label owner Sven Vath would drop at peak time. "Eureka" isn't quite as frenetic, but its dramatic stabs, coupled with niggling, metallic hi-hats and pounding kicks, are sure to propel Michael Klein to techno's mainstream.

Review: Michael Klein continues his impressive run of releases on Second State Audio, this time with a remix package from some top-flight producers. Dubfire turns "Dismantled Structure" into a rolling, dubbed out workout, led by hypnotic chords and a hollowed out groove. Meanwhile on his version of "Dirty Daddy", Markus Suckut opts for a heavier approach, with pounding kicks and rickety percussion leading into a cavernous break down. Developer has also been tapped for a remix, and his take on "Flashes In Your Eyes" is led by lithe drums and a searing acid line. Last but by no means least is the +plattform take on "So Far To Go", which plumbs the depths of weirded out acid, and aligns it with shuffling metallic drums.

Review: Michael Klein delivers his second release for Pan Pot's label, presenting a mixture of old influences and modern day rhythms. "Silver" sounds like an update of classic Lil Louis house thanks to its insistent bass and jaunty rhythm. "Opaque" meanwhile is based on contemporary, boxy beats and frosty synths, while "Outer Shell" is deeper and darker than the previous tracks, as Klein delves deep into austere, tranced out techno. The release changes with "Dura 2", a slower, beatsy affair with A Ghost's ponderous vocals, but it's only a temporary divergence and soon enough it shifts back to the dance floor courtesy of Roman Lindau's stepping take on "Dura 2".
