Review: Seven years on from his debut EP, Memphis-based Michael Kuntzman returns to Larry Heard's long-running Alleviated label with a belated sequel - his first release of any sort since 2016. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Dixie Queen', a cut featuring vocals from both himself and guest Madelline Collins. It comes in two variations: the 'Stripped Mix', where a deliciously dirty and distorted bassline spars with dreamy chords, and the even wonkier and wilder 'Dripped Mix'. Sandwiched in between you'll find the TB-303-powered acid explosion that is 'Jackin', and the deeper, more alien-sounding acid number 'Mystery (For Leo)', where ghostly chords spar with raw electronic motifs and sweaty machine drums.
