Review: Michal Wolski has carved out a niche for releasing tough, uncompromising music for respected labels like Nonplus and Eerie. Now he brings that vision to this split EP with fellow Polish artist Kuba Sojka. Wolski's "Atman" is a dense, wiry stepper that resounds to glitchy soundscapes, while he ventures down a route occupied by Sleeparchive and Mike Parker for the bleep laden "Anatman", resulting in a tripped out club techno track. Sojka isn't afraid to mix things up either; the use of concrete weight kicks and clanging percussion on "Fire Haze" has echoes of Oscar Mulero, while "Mirage" is a buzzing, wailing electro-techno workout with ebm influences.

Review: Wolski has a number of albums to his credit, but this release on Boddika's Nonplus is one that is more likely to win him recognition. On the title track, he channels the spirit of Basic Channel but also Pole's glitchy, 'found sound' approach to craft an expansive but effective techno stepper. "Moment by Moment" is more abstract - although a common bond is the dubby bass - as sound scapes and frequencies fizzle and hiss throughout the arrangement, while on "Polar Day", he drops the tempo to create an atmospheric, hollowed out groove. Wolski is nothing if not inventive and the final track, "Unfinished Transaction", sees him drop an eerie but layered rhythmic stepper.

Review: Michal Wolski's sixth album in as many years sees him refine the deeply contemplative techno sound that has become his signature. "Mer Caspienne" opens with gentle ambient soundscapes before moving into the low tempo pulses and found sounds of "Mer Noire". The somewhat chilling ambience of "Mer De Beaufort" follows and the mood shifts; "Mer De Siberie Orientale" sees Wolski send out sonic blips over a foggy tapestry while "Transatlantique" marches to distorted drums before veering into a mysterious ambient whirlpool. By the time the droning, thudding sprawl of "Mer D'Arabie" is audible, Wolski has brought the listener on an unforgettable journey across imaginary oceans.

Review: Polish producer follows up great releases recently on Blank Slate and his own Micronomusic after moving home from a stint in NYC. Marco Shuttle's Errie is a fitting home for his subterranean techno and the sound of the Gotham City has definitely left its mark. "Qi" is a dark and relentless epic featuring the boom of an 808 kick, thunderous toms and evil atmospherics. "Dawn" is the real highlight though: a droning and tunnelling peak time cruiser descending you into the abyss. Finally the stripped and slow burning thriller that is the title track features reptilian snarls, demonic whispers and doom laden bells. All the good stuff.
