Review: Over the last 12 months, Mixmag has been dipping into their archive of cover-mount CDs and making the mixes available digitally for the first time. The latest set to get this treatment is a 2014 mix from Seth Troxler, when the popular artist was at the peak of his powers. Recorded live in one take with no overdubs or post-mix editing trickery, the Illusion Noveau sees Troxler move from the creepy ice cream van tones of Windy & Carl's 'Carnivale' to the steelpan-fired brilliance of Steven Encinas' 'Disco Illusion', via heady neo-dub (Pepe Bradock), next-level minimalist jazz (Ricardo Villalobos remixing Royal Dust), glitch-house (Matthew Herbert), Afro-house (Obafunke), wonky late night house (nis own collab with the Martinez Brothers) and strobe-lit neo-Italo insanity (Todd Terje's rework of Simon Baker).

Review: A decade ago, New York band Midnight Magic delivered arguably THE greatest disco anthem of the 21st century, the sing-along classic that is 'Beam Me Up'. Fittingly, Razor 'N' Tape has decided to mark the record's anniversary by delivering a trio of fresh remixes. Full Pupp boss and Scandolearic disco king Prins Thomas leads the charge with a richly percussive, constantly building peak-time revision that adds wriggling acid lines and delay-laden horn solos whilst retaining the original's core elements (think walking bass, celebratory vocals and cheery piano stabs). Elsewhere, Kim-Ann Foxman re-imagines the cut as a sleazy, mid-tempo acid disco chugger and Each Other re-frames it as a surging, arpeggio-driven dance through camp Italo-disco pastures. Ace!

Review: No prizes for working out what's going on here - the clue's in the EP title! First released in 2010, 'Beam Me Up' from NYC collective Midnight Magic is a mid-paced disco/boogie groover with a female vocal that suggests something of a Grace Jones fixation. As for the remixes, Theo Kottis pays homage to the Italo-house sound of late 80s/early 90s Ibiza, Perel takes us into stripped 'n' sleazy Berlin-ish territory and Krystal Klear's rub has an epic, big room feel, while Benjamin Frolich gives the track a much housier makeover. Each of the mixes will find its fans for sure, but Perel and Frohlich lead the charge to these ears.
