Review: In a crowded scene, it's important for large scale label projects such as CruCast to focus on bringing new talent through the scene, keeping the more established artists on their toes whilst injecting new levels of diversity and creativity. We here see them introduce five acts, kicking off with Xeonz who presents his electric 'World', packed with melodic energy. MPH follows with his vibrant creation entitled 'Crash', alongside Mindstate, who joins forces with Cal for 'Work'. PZP then joins the party with the vocal heavy composition of 'On You', before the gritty sub rolls of Hoda's 'Broccoli Dub' finishes up the release with a dash of finesse.
Review: Boom! Calibre on 1985. Do we need to write anything else here? Not really... It's Calibre remixing an absolute gem from Dogger, Mindstate and Liam Bailey, adding his touches just where it's needed and giving a modern day classic a fresh new chapter. As if that's not enough we also have 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' with man like DRS. A dreamy, subtle ebbing/flowing cut that's gentle and full of emotion and soul, it's yet another precision melancholy soul moment from Alix Perez's label. Essential.
Review: Mindstate is the first artist on Dogger's new Precinct imprint, a label grounded in urban sonics and aesthetics which is highly likely to produce some fantastic music. At least if this first single is anything to go by, anyway, as liquid master Mindstate rolls out across two deft cuts that blend grit and soul in a manner few artists can pull off. 'Seven Satellites' is crystal clear jungle on a mission, with precise break work that feels pure and clean, backed up as it is by punchy bass stabs and a stripped back arrangement. The flip rolls things out, a liquid number with nonchalant piano touches at its core and a sense of relaxation that permeates your every pore. Subtle yet brilliant.
Review: Dogger and Mindstate's follow-up EP to their sensational 2019 release Broken Home, drops this week, and the pair have blown things to pieces once more. In doing so, they've kept up their winning formula of jazz-infuenced, musical drum & bass paired with Liam Bailey, who is joined this time around by [ K S R ] and DRS. The title track is yet another two-step power ballad from the trio and, in the vein of Broken Home, there's a sumptuously smooth introduction that sways into the drop with the swishness of a silk gown falling to the floor. Anile features on the gorgeous Don't Hurt Me, and DRS rounds out the second two tunes with his usual aplomb.
Review: Manchester representing! Having previously appeared on the launch of DRS's Space Cadet label in December 2018, Dogger and Mindstate come correct with their debut EP on 1985 with four powerful soulful cuts. Rolling deep with Liam Bailey, each track hits with authenticity and realness; "Broken Home" has a Conrad and Bukem feel as Bailey flexes his broadest of ranges, "Love Is The Law" lashes out with big splashes of jazz while "Rebels" touches on a little dub warmth before "So So" closes with the sultriest showdown of the set. Easily the most sensual record to land on 1985 so far. Stunning.
Review: It's clear to see that after a string of very well received compilations towards the tail end of 2018 that the LW Recordings camp are back on the road meaning business. They therefore kick off the new year in like minded fashion, presenting us with this treasure trove of beauties as the 15th edition of their celebrated 'Sublime Bass' series. We here a range of styles involved, from the rolling post dubstep vibes of DGGZ's remix of 'Silked', to the more big room flavours of 'Fumble' by SP3CTRUM. Our highlights are without are the masterful future garage processings of Disperto Certain's 'Sudden Flames', along with the super groovy 'Archiva' from Soxx.
Review: It was only a matter of time until the Project Allout gang made their 2018 return as they kick the new year off with some serious bassline pressure. This release sees Bristol's own Mindstate team up with the energetic vocals of CAL for an extremely vibrant VIP mix of their earlier collaboration 'Girls'. The VIP see's funky chord patterns and spooky synth leads combine with the vocal presence for an eerie introduction which descends into bassy madness come the breakdown. On remix duty PAR bring forth Ghastly with his much quicker 4x4 rework, Jaikea with his unpredictable recreation and Sheppz Dawgy for a full grimey rethink.
Review: It's that time again, as the infamous PAR imprint returns for their yearly Christmas compilation, showcasing their extensively versatile roster and variety of musical styles. This year is a collection of returns and debuts, as we see Killjoy, Deadbeat, Dr Cryptic, KXVU, Moony, Jakebob amongst others all make solid return appearances. Some of our favorites include the haunting sounds of Dallen's grimey roller 'Time', the catchy 4x4 riffs and rhythms of Kind Hydra's 'Bass Trap' and skippy arrangement and aggressive synth design on 'Trigga' from the elusive Rotti. There aren't many labels that can boast such an extensive yet versatile roster and yet remain so assured in as many different areas of UK bass music.
Review: Following their first blast into Brooklyn on their new Street Series, Liondub International returns with another debut departure, this time from Bristolian talent Mindstate. Previously associated with Brian G's Chronic label, he has worked with Blak Twang,Congo Natty, and Rodney P and his style, heavily imbued with dub elements and vocals, is a shoe-in for Liondub International's signature style. Title track "Vibes" takes heavy dub elements and rubs them against hard jump-up and dirty bass, setting the tone for the release. Wild and tribal at times, there's no way the dancefloor will be still for any of these riddims. Get involved.
