Review: Don't get mad, get funky... BCee's Spearhead imprint kicks off 2022 with this almighty package of freshness from a whole range of its many friends and family members. Now a tradition on the label, the message and vibe is clear - all flavours, all styles, all levels are welcome in Spearhead's broad church. From the subtle jazzy funk of Blacklab's 'Placebo' to the tense and stark breaks of Sweetpea's 'Jungle Juice'. Elsewhere longstanding donnies Nymfo and Villem get motivational on 'Lazy Bones', Bcee & Blu Mar Ten get cosmic on 'In The Head' and Riya continues her impeccable vein of form with 'Where Did The Time Go'. All this and many more moods, Spearhead are sizzling into the 2022s in fine and firing style.
Review: Florida's own Breakbeat heavyweights return once again with another fantastic compilation, featuring high powered tracks from the likes of C@ In the H@, Kiwistar, Red Oak and more. As one of the leading forces pushing newschool funk and breaks sounds, we expected nothing less! Our favourites from this one lay in the oldschool junglist flavours of Mista Trick's 'Get Out My Way' and the unpredictable synthy madness and general swagger of Duke Skellington's 'Hot Jazz And Fire'. This one has something for everybody, covering so many areas of electronic music with real expertise.
Review: Swing when you're winning! Mista Trick's horn-heaving, feel-good funk album from last year enjoys a full-spectrum remix collection from artists across the board. Bass house heads will be all over reboots from the likes of Powello Bros, DJ Halo and Duke Skellington while the D&B fans will lap up vibes from the likes of BCee, Ed Solo and Low:r. Each cut adding a whole new lease of life to Mista Trick's originals, these have arrived just in time for the summer. Here's to a hot one.
Review: Black cotton: the racy yin to white mink's raunchy yang, Freshly Squeezed squeeze into their slinkiest number and lay down five more unabashed versions on classic speak easy standards. Highlights include the insane energy and juicy funk of Wolfgang & Louie's "Puttin' On The Ritz", the floor-burning D&B mischief of Mista Trick's "Swinging All Day" and the sudden switch into an almost rocky stomp on Pisk's "One Steady Roll". Teases and pleasers with nothing but authentic instrumentation and preemo prohibition party vibes.
