Review: The Future Disco crew has thrown open the doors to their imaginary 'Mirrorball Motel', a roadside hotel for disco misfits that's far more glamorous than it is sleazy (unlike most real-life motels). The 20-track musical accompaniment takes disco, boogie and nu-disco and bends it into fresh new shapes, with plenty of excitable house grooves and funk-fuelled peak-time workouts. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the Reflex's squelchy rework of Roisin Murphy's 'Incapable', the hands-in-the-air rush of Saison's 'Rocinate', a fine neo-Italo throb-job from Breakbot & Yuksek ('Taqa'), the glassy-eyed Balearic disco/deep house fusion of Bondax ('Don't Want It') and the yacht disco-influenced sunshine of 'Strangers' by Kosmo Kint and Kapote.

Review: Irish duo Mix & Fairbanks come good with an EP that sits right on the house/disco cusp. 'Labyrinth' itself centres around an insistent, bass-y synth that throbs away throughout, and that's married to sci-fi-esque synth strings, an indecipherable male vocal shout ("found loving", maybe?) and, towards the end, some nice rave-y keys as well. Ron Basejam's rerub drops slightly deeper and adds trippy, toppy synth squiggles that'll serve you well during those headfried small-hours excursions, while completing the package is 'Toecutter', which gets even more in-your-face with the plinky-plonk keys and has a vaguely "early Guerrilla" kinda vibe in places.

Review: In sporting terms, statistics tell us that teams do better on "home turf". It seems a fitting title then for House of Disco's latest multi-artist extravaganza, which is the musical equivalent of a thumping 5-0 home win with free beers and hugs at full time. The standard is uniformly high throughout, from the bounding bounciness of LPM's rap-sampling disco-house cut "Get With It", to the impeccably warm and sun-kissed jazz-house vibes of Purple Ice's "Adeus". In between you'll find the rolling, synth-heavy warmth of Mix & Fairbanks' deliciously loved-up "Shergar's Revenge" and "Me, You, Us", a chunky sample-house number by Shee full of swirling strings, looped guitar riffs, hazy chords and righteous spoken word samples.

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits label has now notched up 50 releases. To celebrate this landmark occasion, the man himself has selected 25 of his favourite cuts from the label's rapidly expanding back catalogue. As a showcase for everything that's good about the imprint, it does a bang up job, gleefully jogging between exotic mid-tempo disco and disco-funk (Frank Virgilio, Dr Packer, The funk District), slo-mo disco-acid (Fingerman's tremendous rework of B-Jam's "Sundog"), kaleidoscopic, reworked '80s boogie business (Casual Connection, Melon Bomb, the hard-tweaked filters and heady loop business of Chewy Rubs), tried-and-tested party-starters (Smashed Atoms, Get Down Edits remixing Stephen Richards) and giddy peak-time workouts (Shit Hot Soundsystem, Dave Gerrard, Thomas Maslo, Kiu D). As the old saying goes, this is all killer, no filler.
