Review: Ombra International is a Berlin based indie-dance label run by Luca Venezia aka Curses (formerly Drop The Lime) featuring artists from around the globe sharing a mutual love for post-punk, new wave and other weird guitar and synth sounds. What's more, they're united by lust and fury and alone.. together! Commencing with the hazy and slow-burning cosmo-psychedelia of Bordeaux based enfant terribles Bagarre Perdue with "Cowboy", Sutja Gutierrez' "Great Chain Of Being" will take you deep into the exotic with its enchanting west Asian musical aesthetics. On the flip, more cosmic rock for fans of legends like Can courtesy of Frenchman Mondowski while Russian act Seven Knives channel the early '80s vibes of Neue Deutsche Welle on "Wires Go Golden".
Review: This is Mondowski's second appearance on Robi Insinna's Relish label, and it appears that he is fitting in well with the in-house sound. The title track is percolating disco juggernaut, shimmering with percolating electronics and arpeggiations. It is remixed by Joe Spurgeon and turned into a pared back widescreen epic. "Black Age' is even cooler though - all gothy EBM grooves and loops that are given a stark dressing down courtesy of the legendary techno hero The Hacker. Moody beats are here!
Review: London based French producer Mondowski follows a spate of recent releases on Relish and Ombra with a new club-orientated vision for London label and clubnight SC&P. Following his remix services on label's debut and 4th releases, Mondowski makes his full label debut with an electro inspired turn. Dancefloor orientated lead track Sholay finds a mesmerizing path somewhere between extroverted 80's electro and celebratory spiritual transcendence and gets the remix treatment from Pinkman's Kris Baha who subverts the original by turning the electro backbone up to 11. Negative Space voyages into darker electro territories with Kraftwerkesque synths, rolling pads and a motorik bassline, all of which provides the launchpad for Multiple Man to turn out a pitch black EBM banger.
