Monkey Boots

Straddling the divide between nu disco and house, Monkey Boots’ signature sound is built around rock-solid grooves and slow-burn arrangements that build in intensity.

One of the many aliases of veteran producers Chris Reed and Paul Radley, Monkey Boots have been championed by key DJs, including Greg Wilson, who remixed their breakthrough single Whitworth Strut - a tribute to the glory days of Manchester’s Hacienda club.

Chris and Paul's earliest adventures in clubland were in their native northern England, as the house music revolution took hold in the late 1980s.

But they didn't meet until moving to New Zealand at the dawn of the 21st century, kickstarting a 20-year journey as producers, DJs, radio hosts and promoters.

As Reed & Radley (deep house) they made multiple contributions to NZ’s pioneering Reliable Recordings and released a signature EP on Nottingham’s enduringly influential DiY Discs.

After signing for Auckland's Grass Green Recordings, they recorded close to a dozen EPs for the label - as Monkey Boots, Reed & Radley and a third, edit-focused alter-ego, Shallow Taxi Club.

They’ve racked up a string of number ones on download stores and earned support from some of the finest in underground music.

Chris continues to release as Mono/Loco, Neuro Mas and under his own name.

Just Here To Raise Ya (original) - (9:21) 98 BPM Hot
Review: Auckland's Grass Green are at it again with another series of smooth and sexy (not to mention cheeky!) slow-mo house re-edits. And fair play; they're executed pretty darn well, even the man himself Greg Wilson named this in some of his top choice of re-edits of 2013. First up "Just Here to Raise Ya" is yes, you guessed it: The Happy Mondays. Shallow Taxi's "Melody of Creed" reworks M People, but it's good, trust us! Finally and the standout here is Monkey Boots at it again but this time with "Lullaby for Spider Man" reworking The Cure's classic of yes you guessed it: "Lullaby".
