Review: Monotype tends to make dark, rolling cuts that emanate power with a distinct element of sophistication. That description applies well to his latest offering, a four-tracker on Double UV Recordings that brings some serious style to the table and begins with 'Bomboclat-Element', a wobbling pacer that swaggers about the range with a tangible sense of finesse. Next up is the title track, a techy bouncer with a big ol' snare drum and the rough-and-ready vibe to match, the combination of three turning this one into the highlight of the release. The other two are more left-field, more out there and more demonstrative of Monotype's creativity in production. Good stuff.

Review: One of the most consistently prolific producers returns once again to Double UV with four more heavyweight showpieces. "The Punishment" has a classic swinging riff bassline and cheeky soul snippets that nestle right behind your ears and into your brain. "The Third Evil" is a more of a roughhouse joint, all scratchy and savage and "All In" takes a slinkier rolling funk approach that's kinda reminiscent of Shimon's late 90s Ram work finally "Baby G" celebrates realness over a venomous snake-like bassline and some stark cinematic string elements. Monotype = the right type.

Review: All hail our new leader! Monotype's "Queen Of Blood" is here, and she's ruling with an iron fist! Make that six iron fists... "What Is Going On" is a screeched out danger-stepper, "Queen Of Blood" slaps with a trippy woodblock rhythm and a densely packed bassline of multi-layers while "No Double Checkin" and "Mutated Beast" are much muddier, grumbling jams for those all-essential heads-down sessions. We close on two monstrous collabs: "Step Back" (with Lupo) is a hurricane of warped textures that really comes into its own on the second drop while "Science" (with Mamoet) brings us to a techy climax with raw alien soul. God save our (blood) queen!

Review: VIP time: Monotype keeps the vibe of his Ultraviolet album with a cheeky update on his and Panega's restrained stepper "Keep Waiting". With little twists on the prominent singularly plucked bassline, it's a kind reminder of the minimal brilliance. Meanwhile Two Mind (who was last spotted with Monotype earlier this year on Young Guns) continues his savage assault on "Final Friday" with more toxic grit in the bassline. Very important.

Review: Lock stock and two smoking basslines: Bulgarian badman Monotype teams up with friends to makes some seriously threatening gestures on Young Guns: "I Don't Give A Shit" sparks up in earnest with an instantly recognisable sample, real funk to the drums and background textures. "Wondering" shows great samplecraft, too but with a classic Full Cycle style jump up funk to the subs and rolling shakers. "I'm John Grizzly" takes us down a ping-pong bass chamber with lively results while "Delays" closes on the nuttiest sandwich of the picnic where the bass is so twisted it flops either side of the kicks. Not a dull moment.
