Review: We were suitably impressed by Mood J's sun-kissed Distant Hawaii debut - 2017's "Turn Your Love Around" - so hopes are naturally high for this belated sequel. Once again the producer has good times on his mind, with opener "Looking Further" offering a warm and groovy blend of punchy percussion, chunky synth bass and headline-grabbing vocal samples from a much-loved '80s soul favourite. There's a little more vintage U.S garage swing to hazy deep house bumper "Looking Forward", while the Loleatta Holloway-sampling "Don't Cha" is ultra-deep, heavy and locked-in in the best possible way. Rounding things off is "Tribute", a bouncy throwback to the mid-90s Italian house rich in stabbing acid riffs, sweet chords and sun-kissed melodic touches.

Review: As spring begins to turn to summer, Distant Hawaii is already in full-on sunshine mode. You'll certainly struggle to find a more cheery, sun-kissed and positive house cut than "Turn Your Love Around", the cut that opens this label debut from recent L.P.C debutant Mood J. Based around samples from the well-known 1980s dancefloor jam (we'll not mention the source), it's as colourful a chunk of boogie-fuelled party house as you're likely to find. The smile-inducing positivity doesn't end there, either: check, for example, the Balearic arpeggio lines and warm dream house vibes of "The Arps", the glistening Balearic house tunefulness of "Moonlight Drive" (all rubbery bass, cascading melody lines and life-affirming chord progressions) and the smoky deep house dustiness of "NY Vibration".
