Review: Having recently impressed with their contribution to the F*ck Reality series, Moomin returns to the comforting surrounds of long-time home Smallville Records. As usual, Aquarama sees him exploring the deeper, more melancholic side of house music, with typically impressive results. The headline attraction is undoubtedly a stellar rework of Peven Everett's 2001 soulful house classic "I Can't Believe I Loved Her", which Moonin has successfully turned into a misty-eyed chunk of melodious, bittersweet deep house bliss. In comparison, the other two tracks don't sparkle quite as much, but are still hugely enjoyable. The title track - all cyclical acid motifs, drifting vocal samples, shuffling beats and chiming melodies - is particularly tasty.

Review: For his first album since 2016's acclaimed A Minor Thought, Sebastian Genz AKA Moonin has upped-sticks from Smallville and resurfaced on Wolf Music. Musically, little has changed, meaning a heady and intoxicating blend of sumptuous, organ-heavy dancefloor dustiness, muddy lo-fi house, jazzier workouts and the kind of sample-rich, hip-hop influenced deep house jams that are currently all the rage. There are a few curveballs dotted throughout, too, most notably the head-nodding instrumental hip-hop deepness of "949494" and a couple of wonderfully deep and evocative, liquid style drum and bass rollers. In other words, it's an excellent album that exudes smoky deepness from start to finish.

Review: While Moomin may have been one of Smallville's most consistent artists, he's not released that much for the Hamburg imprint in recent times. A Minor Thought is his second full-length, and first since acclaimed 2011 debut The Story About You. Fans of that album will be pleased to discover A Minor Thought picks up where it's predecessor left off, with the producer laying down a series of opaque deep house jams rich with live instrumentation, jazzy samples, delicious musical touches and interesting ideas. Highlights are plentiful, from the loose-limbed grooves, dreamy pads and snaking clarinet lines of "Morning Groove" and effortlessly whimsical "Alone", to the tech-tinged loveliness of "Chemistry" and jazz-flecked bliss of "You Neva Know".
