Sune - "I'll Be Right Back" - (5:25) 121 BPM

Review: The second instalment in the Tale of Tales series brings with it four more reasons to be cheerful. Dirt Crew regular Felix Leifur steps up first with "Eitt", a lovably loose, dusty and occasionally wonky trip into blazed jazz-house territory. The jazzy mood continues on Toy Tronics duo COEO's rolling deep houser "Clouds", before Moony Me peppers a bustling, organic-sounding groove with sparkling synth refrains and drowsy chords on the thrillingly hazy "Soul Mirage". Sune opts for a far more bustling, chunkier beat pattern on skewed disco-house caper "I'll Be Right Back", which features some superbly cut-up and rearranged vibraphone solos alongside punchy horn samples and a brilliant post-breakdown drop.

Review: Uncanny Valley's split, multi-artist EPs are usually amongst their strongest releases, and Give N Take is no exception. Put together by Cuthead, it features tracks from three of his favourite producers, plus two of his own. Max Graef kicks things off with the sleepy deep house jazz of "Tittenkuschler", while Parisian S3A impresses with the rising disco samples, sturdy grooves and minor key flourishes of "Theuz Hamtaak". Moony Me's contribution, the flashing Chicago bass, woozy chords and choppy disco samples of "Magergarten", is also rather good. As for Cuthead's contributions, they're predictably strong, with the samba-goes-boompty shuffle of "Braziliance" just edging out the deep-off-kilter downtempo MPC jam "Oef Oef" in the "best track" stakes.

Review: Super Tuff makes an impressive debut straight out of Brooklyn with M. Vaughan at the helm, and it looks like high grade deep house is on the menu judging by the quality spread across this first EP. Jesse Bru is up first with the steady cruising "Futaki", featuring a great speech by Tom Waits about crooked trees. DJ Aakmael gets into a bouncier concoction on "Offering", and then it's down to label boss Vaughan to push an agenda of tough NYC flavoured grooves splashed with dusty soul and jazz tones in an utterly infectious style. Moony Me then finishes off the EP with an acid track that features swooning strings and some deft drum play.

Review: Eduardo D'Alirio hasn't got many releases to his name (this is just his second effort as Moony Me), but the Munich-based producer clearly knows his way around a studio. "Say It Again" is a fine example of fluid, picturesque, melodic deep house, with just the right balance between floor-friendly grunt, and headphone-friendly lucidity. It also features some delightful chords and a killer mid-range piano hook. The (even) deeper "Late Night Vibin", which builds the action around a cymbal-heavy groove, is pretty tasty, too. Remix-wise, DA JE provides the most startling version - a flute-heavy reconstruction with tasty, live-sounding drums - but it's Francesco Zani's driving Dub and Re-Acid mixes that will get most plays.

What Are You Tryin' To Tell Me With Those Moves - (5:46) 114 BPM
from $1.49
Played by: DJ Mau Mau, Kisk
Review: Hot on the heels of his latest collaboration with Roman Rauch, Moony Me pops up on Klamauk. The Vienna-based deep house producer's jazz influences come to the fore on "Puzzle Shuffle", where woozy chords and bouncy cymbal lines ride a "Get A Move On" style groove, and the undeniably tipsy "Glass Jungle Chant", a sweet and melodious cut built around skittish breaks, wobbly bass and glacial motifs. There's a little more disco flavour to the locked-in pump of "What Are You Tryin' To Tell Me With These Moves", while "City of Storms" is an acid-flecked stomper blessed with enveloping chords and lilting synth solos. Iron Curtis remixes the latter track, delivering a peak-time revision rich in rolling synth stabs, restless drums and woozy chords.

Review: Secret Crunch is Vienna based label run by moody house master Roman Rauch of Philpot and Quintessentials fame, with Moony Me of Toy Tonics and Uncanny Valley. Both musically rooted in hip-hop, soul, funk and disco, but expressing themselves mainly through the gospel of house music. Secret Crunch follows up with a second release entitled One Split Wonder. Rauch serves up the classic vocal house of "Don't You Try" and the emotive and sultry deepness of "Boogie Trip" channelling that Windy City vibe of the mid '90s. Moony Me's contributions are "Screwdriver" where one razor sharp and bouncy bassline leads the way over tough DJ Sneak style beats (just wait 'til those Derrick May style organs come rushing in!) and "Love Deserter"
which goes for that dusty, MPC style deep hop which will appeal to fans of Glenn Astro.
