Review: This is a bit of a treat for funk breaks fans, as leading label Boogie Boutique gathers together a selection of its finest floor-filling bangers. With cheeky mash-ups and bootleg remixes from the likes of Hayz, Ursula 1000 and Nick Fonkyson, there's much to enjoy, not least the sheer silliness of some of the rump-shaking fusions. Check, for example, the anthemic grooves of Nine Lives The Cat's "Let Me In" (a brilliantly executed fusion of "Just Be Good To Me" and "Cross The Tracks") or Badboe's "Show Me Ghetto". None of the cuts will win you brownie points with chin-strokers, but they'll certainly smash up the dance - and that's all that matters.

Review: It's difficult to envisage a Breakbeat Paradise drop that doesn't feature a serious tonne of quality, with this latest collection of 13 powerful creations making up the 'Boots Of Paradise' collection. The project takes a very central theme of reigniting hip hop vocals with dancefloor-ready reworks, from the classic Biggie sampling of Crash Party's 'The Juice' to the old school slicing of 'Ice Cream' from LROY and Aliens In Denmark's 'Chatty Tramp'. Even with this pretty solid central theme, the project has a lot of variation involved, from the sharpened drum punches and modernized synth slides of 'Brick Bounce' by Towlie DJ, to the more 4x4 influenced grooves of Morlack's 'Fall In Love With Me'. Our standout highlight for the whole drop would have to be Pecoe's 'Champion', which balances crunchy drums with well designed vocal sampling, which also makes it a perfect final entry.

Review: Flying the nu-funk flag loudly and proudly, Polish imprint Tru Funk hit number six in their highly collectable bootleg and bass jam series. It's instantly business as usual as we hit Cez14 and Dastardly Kuts' Supremes/David Morales blend "Keep Me Hanging". Elsewhere we find DJ Czech taking Jay Ski and the Quad City DJs and giving them a sexy low-swung bass treatment on "Sky Train". We see Lebroski & Delimentary taking lead from Afrojack with a classic b-boy sample and showing him how it's done properly. Morlack, however, steals the show with a fine rendition of De La Soul and Chaka Khan's "All Good".

Review: French breaks-bass producer and remixer Morlack has made a name for himself with some cheeky edits and sub-punishing originals over the last few years, but "Where Do U Get Ur Funk From" is his first full-length foray for the Funk Blasters label and it's a gem from start to finish. A mix of straight up raw JB funk (as on "Put It Out") to heavyweight nu-funk breaks ("Soul Train Line"), Morlack lends his hand to all manner of styles and keeps things buzzing and distinctly party-flavoured over the LP's thirteen tracks.

Coming through with a vast collection of new artists and familiar faces, these cuts are guaranteed to jump-start your Saturday evenings. Review: For this highly anticipated second volume of 'Breakin The Riddim', Breakbeat Paradise have got an awesome tracklisting and roster together to showcase the fusion of dub and funk into breakbeat compositions. For us the immediate highlights have to be the the reggae infused design of 'Meditation' from Leygo, the smooth patois vocal presence and from Richard Smiths on 'Fire Sound' from Illgorhythms and of course the crunchy drum design and writhing bass tones on Pecoe's 'Boom'. Overall this is a great compilation, showcasing a vast array of styles without diverting from the common theme of the project.

Review: Upbeat, unpretentious nu-disco and disco-house are the order of the day here, much along the lines of Hed Kandi's mid-noughties Disco Kandi/Disco Heaven comps. With 14 tracks to choose from there's plenty of dancefloor bang for your disco buck, and while there's undoubtedly a whiff of fromage in the air in places (Badboe's rap-vocalled, Sister Sledge/InDeep-referencing 'Best Of My Beats', for instance, isn't a million miles from a Will Smith production) there are also slightly deeper pleasures awaiting those who are prepared to dig around a bit - see, for instance, the raw disco-funk of 'Miss Broadway' or Joy Legend's Hammond-sporting 'Pass It On'.

Review: Rhode Island-based Katakana Edits bring us the 98th installment in this long-running series, and once more we're in the hands of Morlack, who's contributed no fewer than 14 previous volumes. The French DJ/producer has dug pretty deep for source material: 'Cali Style' bites Eddy Grant's 'California Style', the Jimmy Castor Bunch's 1975 novelty funker 'King Kong' gets a light-touch refix and 'L.Cats' gives The Cure an unexpected breakbeat makeover, but that's about as much as we can tell you! The rest of the EP draws on unidentified soul, funk and boogie nuggets, many of them with non-Anglophone vocals.

Review: Breakbeat Paradise continue their commendable services to ghetto funk freaks across the globe with this rather delicious four track from French funkateer Morlack. The lead piece, a pelvis thrusting rendition of Tower Of Power's '72 hit "You Got To Funkafize", sets the agenda with supreme squidgy bass and a groove that simply won't quit. "Party Squeezing" follows, and with it comes an enchanting slap bassline that should woo the most poe-faced of dancefloors. Elsewhere we get a little lively on the horns with "Champagne & Caviar" and "Lil Strange To You", a track that harbours a walking bassline that's so brutishly funky rumour has it Bootsy Collins' chopped off his ear when he listened to it on our site.

Going back to his dirtier bass, disco-edged samples and classic hip-hop vocals, it's another 12 track funk adventure with something for all DJs. The source material for the other two cuts remains sadly unidentified but 'Musica Americana' has a Mexican or Latin American flava while 'Ready Ur Your Love' is another early 80s-sounding jam with a growling, almost Tom Jones-esque male vocal.

'Wonderful', on the other hand, revisits Kid Creole & The Coconuts' 1982 hit 'I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby', while 'Whip' is a slowed-down, Temazepam disco reversioning of the Dazz Band's 'Let It Whip' from the same year. Alternatively you could press the 'carnival' button and get freaky with the heaving horns of "Mamboteca". "Move Song" comes at you with a shiny Paul Hardcastle / Harold Faltermeyer style 80s groove. "Pusher" takes Ice-T's finest moment and gives it a Shaft-style 70s car chase down Lombard hill. Finally we hit a funky climax of Parliamentary proportions as Morlack goes back to the source and samples Bootsy himself. Outstanding stuff.
