Mountain EP
Review: Another week, another heavyweight drop from the Duploc crew, who continue to impress with every new project we see emerge from their camp. This time around, they welcome the veteran sonic mastery of Mungk inside, delivering for original stepper sizzlers. We open up with 'Mountain', a seriously unorthodox dive into crunchy sub bass manipulation and dissonant melodic plucks, giving us a moody introduction to say the least. From here, 'Macaque' then allows us to explore a more percussive-lead design as floating woodwind and distant atmospherics emerge with a real sense of majesty, before the more eastern-inspired melodic switch ups and digital delights of 'Sand' gives us something even more eye-opening. Finally, the Indian vocal leads and minimal subby backdrops of 'Kuji' give us one final bite of the apple, and boy is it a tasty one to close!

10 Years Of Duploc.com Album
DUPLOC / Various
Review: Across the last 10 years, there aren't many platforms that have given as much energy, time and dedication towards the dubstep scene than Duploc, a platform and entity committed to the betterment and advancement of the original dubwise sound. This collection is a fabulous showcase of the strength they posses as both a label and promotional platform, with 10 of the best delivering absolute weapons, from the swampy bass reverberations of Infekt's 'Kefir', to the Bond-esc bass grooves of Tactics from Ternion Sound and dizzying soundscaping of Juss B's 'Can't Sleep'. The overall project is just dripping in quality, with the likes of ENiGMA Dubz, Oxossi, Mungk, Smith. and Ourman all hard hitting creations. Our highlights have to include the metallic masterclass of Distance's 'Vigilance', showcasing one of the scenes eternal heavyweights, next to the slickly designed sub crunches and bouncy percussive overloads of Hebbe's 'Quotha'. Incredible work and an incredible way to celebrate such an important institution.

DUPLOC WAR DUBS 2
Various
Review: The Duploc team have a real knack for finding and unleashing explosive compilation drops, with this latest 8-track war-tape being another one to add to the arsenal, focussing on some potent remix action. Opening up with Mystic State's dreamscape-driven rethink of 'Voice' from Opus, we know we are in for a good time, with 11th Hour then giving Ourman's 'Bad Things' an electrifying overhaul next to the grungy synth pulses and grizzly drums of Woven Thorns' rework of 'One Time' from Juss B. There is no letting off the gas as AxH lets the bit crushers loose on his potent rethink of JSM's '1893', next to the eastern inspired melodic drifts of SBK's 'The Vihaan' remix from ColtCuts, the choppy LFO sweeps of Cesco's 'Mangal Sound' redesign from Oddkut & Hotcut and of course Mungk's sub-heavy switch up of 'Schreddzzz' from Rygby. Finally, Drumterror fires off a stuttering display of vocal chops and large melodic action on his 'Puli Kali' overhaul, giving Mungk's original one final rethink to round off the compilation in style.

Sanskrit EP
Review: What a powerful way to start the year this is as Infernal Sounds return with a spicy welcome for Mungk, who delivers a four track display of sizzling dubstep flavour for us all to enjoy. We open up with the chanted vocal loops and grizzly reese-driven undergrowth of 'Sanskrit', giving us a vibrant title track to kick start proceedings. Next up, the tripletted rhythms and sub-busting basslines of 'Ifrit' give us a real follow up slap, with the eastern-inspired melodic swivels and booming 808 pulses of 'Among The Dancers' then upping the pace once again. We then round up with another eastern-inspired creation as the delicate plucks and all-engulfing sub-structures of 'Crestmoon' gives us a solid final addition, rounding off the EP with a dash of sonic finesse.

DUPLOC 2021 Collection

Review: What a year it has been for the Duploc team, who have continued to strive to push the 140 scene further than ever-before. As always, they have come together to unleash their full 2021 catalogue in one singular monumental drop, unleashing 40 system-smashers for us to enjoy over the Christmas period. Featuring a heavyweight catalogue, we get to explore releases from the likes of Dalek One, ENiGMA Dubz, Tappa, Hebbe, Ternion Sound, Oddkut, Juss B, Distance, Mungk and more. It really is a testament to how strong their movement has become when you look at the strength behind this year's catalogue, with the overarching theme of every contained release being perfect for a system-backed shell out. Awesome work and the perfect closer to the year!

Temple Of Mungk
Played by: NAZA, Tik&Borrow
Review: If we've said it once we've said it 1000 times, building a coherent, workable dubstep album remains one of the hardest things to achieve in electronic music. That is something that Mungk has achieved here with absolute certainty, from the stunning soundscaping of the jungle-centric prologue, to the eastern-inspired percussive grooves of 'Yashka' and 'Bazaar' and more dubwise instrumentation of 'Shasha'. This is a project that explores the full depth of both influences and actualities of the modern dubstep sound, which the Duploc team must be very proud to be presenting. Our highlights have to include the stunning, crunch-heavy drum arrangements of 'Spirit', which double up with some seriously cool high-ended melodic work to match. We also can't get enough of hypnotic melodic designs of 'Varzaneh' and heads down, Amazonian percussive brilliance of 'Congo', marking this album as a massive production success.

Kuji
Review: Not only have Duploc become one of the most influential platforms for promoting dubstep music in general, the label aspect of their project continues to pump out top quality projects at a rate we can hardly keep up with ourselves. This next release sees Mungk back doing what he does best, kicking off with the spooky vocal sampling and grizzly subs of 'Kuji', before the drilly 808 basslines and eastern inspired melodic plucks of 'Rajasthan' take us somewhere completely different. Next, 'Puli Kali' combines shimmering percussive smashes with more off-the-cuff vocal slicing to create something super unique, followed by the more minimal arrangement of 'Macaque' to round us off in style.

Review: It is becoming more and more difficult for us to keep pace with the Encrypted Audio rampage as they continue their pretty spectacular run of top quality dubstep drops with another bombshell, this time welcoming fourteen top quality steppers creators inside for a mega compilation. There have been no expenses spared when it comes to the lineup, with the likes of Dalek One, Kodama, Karnage, Zygos, Mungk and many more established faces supplying us with a string of hard hitting dubstep originals. When we take a look at our specifics favourites however, we have to point out the truly lethal sub-bass & reese-bass combinations on DubApe's 'Quick', alongside the glitchy soundscapes of 'Bricked' from Chendah and the super syncopate rhythmic displays of Reamz on 'Devilish'. Awesome work as per!

Tarot
Review: What a way to put the finishing touches on what really has been a top quality year of new music for the Simply Deep team, with Aerotonin constantly supplying us with exciting new artists to enjoy. This brand new EP sees them welcome MUNGK inside for a fabulous selection, kicking off with the incredible eerie melodic reflections and bassy drives of 'Tarot', followed by the dungeon-ready percussive powers of 'Dabke' and the bulbous bass stab and emotive vocal slice combos of 'Reflections'. The remixes are when it gets even more interesting however, with Hypho first popping up to give an even more delicate spin to 'Tarot', before Hunter Reed sends the track down a much more moogy avenue. Finally, Khromi overhauls 'Dabke' into a melodic epic, rounding off this wonderful creation nicely.

Review: Boy oh boy what a year it has been for the Duploc family, who despite all the madness of 2020 have still kept up their incredible run of consistency, dropping nothing but bangers throughout the duration. This, presumably their final drop of the year sees them pull together a monstrous roster, featuring the likes of Cartridge, BunZer0, Ourman, Opus, Teffa, Sam Cosmic, Xakra and many more to give us one final celebratory look into dubstep in the modern era. The complete track listing is absolutely bonkers to tell you all the truth, with quality leaking out of every single original. Some favourites we have to mention however of course include the sizzling bass designs and spooky textures of Wraz's 'Ghost', alongside the fluttering flute melodies of Mani's 'Secret Forest' and 'Gibberish', a super smooth subby glider from Surreal & Somah.

Duploc Selects - Chapter Three
Various
Review: When we come to discuss consistency, if we are talking within the dubstep scene, there really aren't many labels you look to before you land on Duploc. They are back doing what they do best next as they deliver a monumental compilation project, showcasing some of the hottest dubstep talents in the world right now, including Opus, Teffa, Xakra, Wraz, Sam Cosmic and more. There are some absolute gems to be plucked from this tracklisting, including the upbeat orchestral layouts of 'Secret Forest' from Mani and of course the devilish melodic structures and haunting vocal samples of 'Hidden Blade' from Woven Thorns. Overall, this one is a huge success.

From The Vault
Review: Next up from the Dub, Sweat & Beers crew we dive into the vaults as Imanzi & Mungk join forces for a weighty pair of vocal link ups. First up, the legendary vocal flows of Killa P are brought to the forefront on 'Chatty Mouth' as the eerie use of space and reverberation within the instrumental structure provide the perfect foundation from which to rise. On the flip, we find ourselves on VIP duty as Natty Campbell delivers a new version of 'Bubble & Wind', channelling some serious intense sub-lines below shimmering chord progressions and his own system-ready toasted vocal. An excellent job all around!

Review: The Encrypted Audio team have delivered a real gem of a release with this one as they welcome the sounds of Mungk in for a dubwise delight, launching his band new 'Warrior Dance' single with some cracking remixes. The original mix of the tune is a proper system stomper, driven forward primarily by it's marching drum designs and ska-like chord syncopations, making it a perfect turn up tune for the dance. We have also been given some top quality remix action as Ourman firstly gives the track a more emotive half-time facelift, followed by Imanzi's spaced out system-ready relick. Finally, Kodama gives us a shuffling steppers overhaul, pushing a more classic dubwise chord pattern forward with an eerie sense of atmosphere throughout.

Acid EP
Played by: NAZA
Review: Well this sure is a combo to get excited about as the futuristic production stylings of MungK find a home on the super consistent Instigate Recordings for three weighty new originals. We kick off with the very well named 'Acid' a moog-heavy pulsating thrill ride of synthetic experimentation over swampy, pulsating 140 drum work. From here, 'Glitch' arrives with a fabulous display of floaty pad textures and grizzly 808 bass kicks topped with distant rave chords, followed up by the interesting drum designs and bubbling synth melodies of 'Modular' to round off another impressive body of work from all involved.

For The Heads Compilation Vol 3
Various
Played by: NAZA
Review: Now with dubstep compilations, it's often the case that we will see projects stacked up with a couple of bangers and a bag of average creations, however this latest fifteen track body from the For The Heads gang consists of nothing but pure steppers flavour. The line up alone is immense, pulling together some of the biggest new school names in dubstep as a whole, including: WZ, Kali, Ome, Mistah, SBK, Mungk and more. If we had to pick a pair of favorites, it would have to include the delicious delays and marshy bass textures of 'Deep Meditation' from Teffa, alongside the glittering LFO's and scattered drum beats of 'Curren't from Sedan. Awesome stuff!

Iowaska Dub / Scorching Dub
Review: Well, it seems that Dub Communication have once again outdone themselves here as they welcome in the futuristic dubwise delights of Mungk, who touches down for a fantastic two track piece. We look firstly at 'Iowaksa Dub', which combines subtle, eastern inspired melodies and harmonies over dubwise drum structures and marching rhythms to create something mystic and wonderful. On the flip side we are introduced to 'Scorching Dub', which takes on a much more typical steppers approach, packed with dubbed out horns and colourful chord progressions to add a really nice contrast to the A-side.

Lion Dub/Temple Steppa
Review: There are few things more uplifting within the realms of bass music that future dub music, a sound with which Dubstep Rotterdam have been closely associated. Here we are thrilled to see them unveil this vibrant two track masterpiece from Mungk, who firstly puts together some super smooth reggae-infused arrangements across the expanse of 'Lion Dub'. On the flip the party really starts to warm up however, as the structures are manipulated into a more 4x4 design, bringing a pulsating sub-line to the front of the mix, making this one perfect material for the dance.
