Review: With praise for their dynamic debut album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, still ringing in their ears, NYC twosome Musclecars delivers an expansive collection of remixes, alternate takes and bonus cuts. Remix-wise, Masters at Work man Louie Vega does the bulk of the work, offering multiple takes on the sweet, soulful, sun-flecked classic house flex of 'Tonight'. Alongside his main 'remix' - a disco-influenced organic house roller - Vega delivers a beefy 'Bronx Dub', a locked in and sweat-soaked 'Bassin Dub', a chunky and tech-tinged 'South Jersey Dub' and a 'Brooklyn Solo' dub smothered in reverb-laden jazz guitar. The other notable revision comes from Maurice Fulton, who delivers a typically low-slung deep disco revision reminiscent of his classic rubs of Alice Smith and Kathy Diamond.

Review: New York duo Musclecars bring us "Sugar Honey Iced Tea! (Explicit)," their soulful and jazzy house album on BBE Music. This album isn't just a sweet drink reference; it dives deep into the complexities of the Afro-American experience. Early singles "Running Out Of Time" and "Ha Ya! (External Life)" hinted at the band's vibrant sound, and the full album delivers. Expect a blend of soulful vocals, smooth grooves, and introspective lyricism that lingers long after the last note fades. While the album's title might suggest a carefree summer vibe, Musclecars delve into a wider range of emotions. Tracks weave through themes of joy, loss, struggle, and resilience, offering a nuanced look at Black life.

Review: Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield are a pair of DJ/producers from New York, who've been putting on their Coloring Lessons parties since 2018 and have since launched a label of the same name. Here, though, they come to BBE Music with a cut that, with its fusion of Afro, jazz and soul elements, could perhaps only have come from the city that birthed Body & Soul. If the laidback, rolling beats of the Original aren't quite doing it for you then maybe Shannon Harris' A Love For Joy Journey Mix, with its fat funk bassline, spoken word intro and "party!" chants will, while an Instrumental Mix completes the package.

Review: New York-based house duo, Craig Handfield and Brandon Weem, known as Musclecars, are rapidly gaining popularity worldwide. They have created a unique sound that is exemplified by their label, Coloring Lessons, and popular shows on The Lot Radio. With grooves as exceptional as the ones they produce, their international success is set to continue. The opener on their latest release showcases tender piano keys and intimate field recordings, creating an immersive atmosphere. Their track, 'We Go Home Together,' is a sultry and warm deep house jam featuring a majestic sax line, while the Ron Trent remix of 'Shelter' elevates the track into uplifting house territory.
