We are immediately gifted a wickedly wide range of steppers originals, from the warm sub work of Mystic State's 'Ever Further Dub', to the more party-driven drums of 'Tribal Alien' from Legion and the squelching sub squeezes of MYTHM's 'Dead City'. Review: Three years since My Own Private Island comes the second proper studio album from Bristol duo Mystic State. Flexing the tempos and blurring the boundaries as always, the pair roll out a collection thoughtfully with attention to detail in the album craft. From the smouldering contemporary cosmic jungle of 'The Uprising' to the soulful hurricane of 'Stormboy' (with Lucy Kitchen), Mystic State glide, slide and open ears wide with a measured and very focused sound and sense of soul. Complete with collabs with the likes of Alicia Kiah, Cutta Chase, Elysia Grace, Third Degree, Lucy Kitchen and Marenn Sukie, this is a body of work that will complement any context, situation or season. Mature but not overcooked; Mystic State are on another level right now.

Review: The Artikal team are back in business with this latest juicy drop as they welcome the ever-ready mystic state to the table with a bulbous four track selection. We open up with the jittering melodic backdrops and delicate drum designs of 'Gallows', a fearsome title track, jam-packed with gnarly bass goodness and eerie atmospherics, of course amplified by the unmistakable vocal presence of PAV4N. From here, the dubwise side of Mystic's character rises to the top as 'Understand' delivers a chord driven dip into delayed percussion and sweeping subs, before Jack-Flynn Oakley joins the party on the sizzling bass crunches and scuttling rhythms of 'Blinded'. Finally, the subtle Asian string work and hard hitting bass notation of 'Inner Sanctum' gives us another powerful feature to round the EP off. Excellent work!

Review: For this latest outing from Mystic State, we see the unveiling of the 'Stutter' EP, which sees us dive into a fabulous display of steppers-inspired sound design and emotional harmonic backdrops, showing just how versatile that Mystic State sound can be. We open up with the harp-pluck-driven melodics of the title track 'Stutter', which slowly unravels into a beautifully composed combination of bulging bass sweeps and dramatic woodwind whirls. Next, Jack Flynn-Oakley joins the party for the sub-heavy sweeps of 'Falling Down', which again gives us a truly unique sound, focussing on breathy reverbs and spacious percussive manoeuvres, before SMBR gets involved to assist with the final touches of 'Ruminate'. This one is a glittering masterclass in vocal processing and delicate melodic structure, rounding the project with a syncopated twist.

Review: 25 years in the game! The world's longest-standing D&B platform continues to represent drum & bass culture in the best and most upfront way possible with this incredible collection of tracks from right across the whole scene. Review: Well following on from a number of impressive dubstep events across the full spectrum of the scene, The Deep Heads team have matched that all with this incredible new compilation as they deliver the third edition of their incredible 'Deep Heads' series. This star-studded lineup is pretty breath-taking, with the likes of Kromestar, Biome, Om Unit, Sukh Knight, Synkro & more all delivering some serious bassweight. The tracklisting is made up of 24 wicked originals, with our favourites actually coming from some of the lesser established faces on the project. These include the likes of Mystic State's sumptuous 'Society' original alongside Astrid, which boasts serious 'Anti-Social' vibes. As well as this, the more stripped back, garage influenced drums of Clubroot's 'Harmony' and dancing percussion of 'Traps' from Escapism Refuge also sit as highlight picks for us!

Review: For this mighty selection, we see Mystic State land on the incredibly impressive Artikal Music imprint for another absolute shellout, this time consisting of two tasty solo pieces and two corking collaborations. The title track 'Tomahawk' makes the most of a twisted, eastern-sounding string line, pressed between moogy bass plucks and crispy percussive elements to match. Next up, the VIP mix of Hemisphere is unleashed, jam packed with neurotic bass twists and sharp drum patterns. We then move into the remixes, as the legendary J:Kenzo joins the party for the sub-heavy expressions of 'Competition', before JFO's additional input on 'Cuatro' wraps the EP up with some serious sauce.

Review: The dubstep resurgence we have seen taking place of the last couple of months has been nothing short of mesmerising, with so many label projects releasing top quality content weekly. Artikal is one of the front runners without a shadow of a doubt and this new Mystic State project proves exactly why. We begin with the hypnotic reversed melodies of the title track 'Mahdi', backed up with potent sub structures below, before diving further into the deep with the subtle reese growls of 'Nines'. We finish up with a look at the amazonian percussive rolls and succulent bass tones of 'Hemisphere', wrapping up one tasty meal indeed.

Review: This one comes straight out of the South West of England as Drum & Bass duo Mystic State link up with long term affiliates Flexout Audio for a cracking three tracker. As stated before the young duo are primarily known for their work in drum & bass, but this EP sees them step into a more unexplored realm with three extremely original creations. We kick off with the electric half-time future bass stylings of 'Whole Half', followed by the rolling hip hop infused drum patterns of Zoo which features an awesome set of poetic vocals from Jakaboski. We then round off the EP with a half techy half time creation titled 'Effwatya' in collaboration with Third Degree.
