Review: With previous releases on HedZup, Blind Vision and local label PIV, Amsterdam's Jesse Maas continues his ascent up the scene with this terrific new offering for French dub house purveyors Berg Audio. The infectious, peak-time tech house groove of "Take Control" takes the very best of UK tech house with the energy of Rominimal, while "A Side" takes a deeper and more sensual tone that's perfect for the Sunday morning slot. Elsewhere, "MC Calls" captures the heady energy of '90s Stateside house with the addition of some mesmerising dub chords for good measure, and there's the welcome addition of a remix by UK veteran Nail which, quite literally - nails - those woozy sunrise vibes to tremendous effect.

Review: It's timely that as Ornate Music reaches its milestone thirtieth release, it introduces another new face to its stable of deep house heavy hitters, that already includes names such as Leif, Miles Sagnia, Jayson Wynters and Dubbyman. All of whom, like new boy here, El Choop, earned their chops in the ranks at respected Welsh festival Freerotation. Unlike those other alumni though, El Choop's pedigree leans heavily on dub techno, as evidenced on previous releases for Default Position and Etui. This latest missive blends the best of both worlds, two crystalline cuts of the deepest house with subtle shades of dub. It's the sound of late-night drives, or stolen closed-eye, post-party moments. Closing out the release, there's a full-side remix of lead cut New Speak from deep house royalty, Nail, who opens up some Basic-Channel like space with a shot of DiY swing. Pure class.

Review: The Mysticisms label serves up a valuable reissue of the very first release from Nail, the long-serving UK house veteran as prolific now as he was back in the heyday of legendary Nottingham soundsystem DiY. "Cassiopeia" originally appeared on a compilation on Warp, but now it gets a full side of vinyl over which to unfurl its arcane 90s magic. Entrancing synth cascades and stuttering sampler mantras, throbbing b-lines and jacking claps all make for a holy grail deep techno track from the good old days, and Nail has given it a 2019 remix which brings the spiritual shenanigans of the original into a different kind of meditative, house-oriented context.

Review: Politics Of Dancing continue their adventures in the studio with friends and kindred spirits, this time teaming up with two tech house titans that paved the way for the sound they're immersed in today. Fellow Parisian Chris Carrier sounds right at home sparring with S.M.A.L.L and Paco on "Track 1", where an irresistible bassline groove underpins some acid licks that burrow deep into the night time frame of mind. Nail is the other partner of choice, and the UK veteran helps whip up a crisp and chunky workout heavy on the drums - a serious DJ workout for those craving solid gear for their sets.

Review: In which seven tracks by German deep/tech house veterans Paul Daniel and Jens Augustowsky (better known as Cab Drivers) get reworked by a selection of producers both well-known and slightly less so. Nail's chuggy, small-hours take on 'Me Dub' and Diego Krause's chunky, bass-y remix of 'Liberation', which has something of an early/mid 90s feel, will doubtless get the most attention here, but other highlights include the deep New Jersey vibes of A Scott & Chad's mix of 'Mrs J', the drifty, acid-flecked late night ride that is ThorsteinssAnn's remix of 'Midnight At Taffey's' and Mancini's wonky, squelchy remix of 'Jijilaja'.

Review: Phil Weeks' notorious Robsoul Recordings is back with another long awaited volume of Most Wanted: Volume 4 to be exact. All the usual suspects are back to provide some seriously looped out and funked up beats which are worthy arsenal for any serious house DJs CDJs. Highlights are not just limited to: fellow Parisian legends Chris Carrier with the sexy "Inner Activist", DJ W!ld's signature discofied soul stylings on "All About You" and not forgetting D'julz "Ze Box" which perfectly sounds like the City of Lights after midnight. Honorable mentions also to UK legend Nail who serves up the balearic beats of "Say Whut?" and head honcho himself Phil Weeks teaming up with Windy City legend Mike Dunn on "We Need House".

Review: Phil Week's Robsoul imprint launches its new Robsoul Edits series, inaugurated by up and coming Frenchman Around7. To quote Phil Weeks himself "whether its reworking for the dancefloor, tweaking for your tastebuds or looking to inject a new freshness to the funk, the best edits are always remembered". Highlights include edits of Dave Dubbz "Lost In The Past" which sounds like DJ Sneak circa Sneaky Trax II, Parisian DJ W!ld's deep groove "Disco & Shit" and probably one of the most needed edits of all: a splice up of Lorenzo's classic "Get Deep" from 2006. Nail of UK legends Bent also appears; Around7's edit of his track "Sweet Feet" from last year gets a pretty decent re-rub too, we must say.

Review: Veteran producer and DJ, Nail Tolliday, had a bit of a protracted lost weekend there for a while, but within the last few years has resurrected his career in fine style. Here he continues to bring the heat with a hefty nine-track release, Nite Music, literally bursting with deep sizzling bangers. Some of the many highlights include the fizzy laser disco of "Sup??", the skippy synth-washed house of "Flytes" and the perky strings of snazzy closer, "Lunar Views".

Review: Former Bent man and one-time DIY stalwart Nail Tolliday has been a busy boy since re-launching his deep house career last summer. After delivering two booming EPs for Sheffield's Shabby Doll crew, he returns to Robsoul for the third installment of his excellent A Block Trax series. "Together" is deep, positive and chugging, with clear disco influences amongst the classic East Midlands beats and cut-up samples. The "Reprise Dub" of the same tune takes it deeper, stripping out the samples to leave a hypnotic late night deep house jam. "Say What" doffs a cap to Derrick Carter style boompty sweatiness, while Mango nudges up the BPM in a tracky, Inland Knights style.
