Review: Global Underground's' Select' series acts as a kind of annual nod to all the electronic music that floats their boat, with each digital download edition offering two (uncredited) CD-length mixes and full then versions of each included cut. 2024's edition - volume nine in total - is naturally packed to the rafters with tasty tracks from both established producers and rising stars. That means an attractive, immersive and frequently emotive mix of ambient-tinged deep electro (Pablo Bolivar & Nacho Sanchez), evocative tech-house (Dixon re-working Nandu's 'Around', Guy J's hypnotic, acid-flecked 'State of Trance'),pitched-down neo-trance dreaminess (Joris Voorn editing Solee), grandiose big room workouts (Fur Coat & Lexur), 21st century acid house (Phunkadelica remixing Damon Jee), and uplifting progressive house (D-Nox).

Review: Danish producer Nandu has released some of his strongest material on Innervisions, though this six-track excursion marks his first appearance on Dixon and Ame's imprint for almost three years. Title track 'Tell Me', featuring the sassy and expressive vocals of Ida Corr, sounds like a late-night anthem in the making - an atmospheric, otherworldly tech-house roller complete with moody bass, minor key melodies and buzzing electronics. It comes accompanied by an even more suspenseful, slow-building dub, bonus cut 'Wasted' - a more positive-sounding but no less hypnotic deep tech-house roller - and three versions of 'Around'. There's his warming and breezy vocal version (where Corr once again makes a big impression), a tidy instrumental mix, and a fine Dixon 're-structure' that starts deep and dubby before building into a grandiose, hands-aloft, life-affirming number.

Review: Mind Against have released on well-known labels like Hotflush and Afterlife - now they bring their distinctive sound to this collection for Fabric. "Freedom", the pair's collaboration with Dyzen, encapsulates everything that Mind Against are associated with; widescreen synths, dreamy deep house textures and crisp break beats. There are similarly hypnotic contributions from Yotam Avni and Marino Canal. However, this selection is not one-dimensional; it also features tough dub techno from Echonomist and Toto Chiavetta, as well as more left of centre selections like the organic, tribal drums of Aera's "Ketosis" and Red Axes' electronic disco, "Connector". That the Mind Against duo are able to integrate these disparate elements and put their own mark on the end result speaks volumes about their talents.

Review: Tale Of Us curates the next volume of their epic compilation series Unity, featuring contributions from a cast of talent located all over the world. Part 3 maintains the same premise as the previous installments, gathering together a massive collection of 39 tracks designed to transport you into another realm. ANNA kicks off proceedings with the mesmerising dance floor drama of "Cosmovision" feat. Ravid, label staple Colyn takes you deep into the aether on the melodic bliss of "Unstable Gravity Alert" and esteemed German producer Recondite takes you on a descent further down the spiral on the brooding "Runner". Elsewhere, representing the new school, the ascendant Kevin de Vries nails that perfect main room techno sound on the epic "Biohazard", as does Innealea with the slinky and hypnotic "Targo", while scene veterans Argy and Dino Lenny represent their vintage with some equally impressive contributions in the form of "Mental Powers" and "Breathe" respectively.

Review: After an appearance on the label's Secret Weapons Part 12 compilation, Danish producer Rasmus Vincentz Jensen aka DJ Nandu returns to Innervisions to present his proper debut in the form of 'Forever In Our Favor' - an entire EP of melodious techno and house. From the eloquent bliss of the ttile track with its incredible attention to details, things take a slightly darker turn on the future deepness of "Distorted Balance" and closing it out with the glassy-eyed and bittersweet mood music of "February Silver Lining". Following up some other great releases of late on Scat City and Connected - DJ Nandu surely is one to watch in 2021.

Review: Hanseatic hero and Watergate stalwart Matthias Meyer rounds up some ascendant debutants here, on the fourth instalment of the 'Watergate Affairs' series - for the Berlin superclub's in-house label. There are a variety of moods and grooves on offer: melodic dancefloor drama comes courtesy of Dutch wunderkind Budakid (Last Night On Earth/Einmusika) on the mesmerising "Orrery", as well as from London/Munich connection Henri Bergmann & Julian Wassermann on the particularly impressive "Maenad". Elsewhere, Meyer himself is on-point as always with the glassy-eyed and bittersweet feel of "Interlude", until Danish artist Nandu rounds out the package with the slinky and evocative deep house of "My Mystery Is A Mystery".

Review: The Connected label is a joint venture between Terranova and Stereo MCs and it celebrates three years in operation with this fine compilation, featuring new remixes of the label's catalogue. First up is a dreamy, offbeat take of Re.You's "They Vibed" by Olaf Stuut, with Reboot's version of Aaron's "Entropy" featuring Hazel and Carolina Melean following in a similar vein. Tim Engelhardt's dreamy, tranced out take on David Mayer's 'Drained" ups the tempo, while Moscoman's edit brings a deeply hypnotic dimension to David Mayer's percussive "Movement". The compilation is also notable for the fact that it features new material from Stereo MCs, with the breathy vocals and tranced out tones of "Light At" showing how far they have come from their original rap days.
