Review: Spun Out is a London-based artist booking agency which has been run by Caroline Hayes for over 20 years, that looked after the life and times of the late great Andrew Weatherall alongside his partnership with Sean Johnston under their A Love From Outer Space moniker. More of that Frightful Oompty Boompty Music is a tribute to the 'Guv'nor' which showcases artists from the agency's roster. Timothy J.Fairplay serves up the chugging dark disco of "Reality Rules", Paranoid London deliver some strobed-out and proper old-school techno on "Spinning Out", go deep into the exotic on Mehmet Aslan's hazy "Shizowaves" and feel the neon-lit jack of Fantastic Twins's "Kali's Tongue Was A Weapon".

Review: James Savage and Jonnie Wilkes are Naum Gabo, a Scottish techno duo who have just landed on one of Germany's most interesting labels, Magazine. The Cologne-based imprint has always been riding on the outskirts of house and techno and has been releasing music by the likes of Wolfgang Voigt and Barnt for a long time. "Fyei" is an '80s-tipped tune, where coldwave vibes weave through the broken beat pattern held together by intricate folds of percussion, while "Hantas" burns its way ever slower across vast plains of synthesized sounds. This is a beautiful addition to Magazine's gorgeous catalogue and as always, this is highly recommended.

Review: Dissident lives on! Well, kind of. Andy Blake's cult imprint shut up shop in 2009, but returns here with a digital compilation of Dissident gems plus two cheeky, previously unreleased Juno Download exclusives. Blake has secured a reputation as a no-nonsense individual with an encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music, and his selections here form a soundtrack of sorts to his ongoing World Unknown parties in Brixton, South London. As well as previously hard-to-find gems from Photonz, Naum Gabo and Blake himself among others, you'll also find a brand new version of the killer mind-warp techno of "Colombia No1". The second previously unreleased track is from Blake's new label Cave Paintings, which carries an ethos of raw, stripped back house sounds recorded in the old school fashion (analogue gear, one take). Serious tuneage here folks.
