Review: Veteran DJ and producer Nic Fanciulli lands at Hot Creations with his first original material for the label, the aptly titled "You Sure Do" EP. This two-tracker wastes no time showcasing Fanciulli's ability to craft dancefloor bombs that pay homage to the past while sounding fresh and current. The opening track, "YSD," is a full-on disco-infused house anthem. Fanciulli lays down a foundation of massive basslines and a pounding drum groove, creating an atmosphere guaranteed to get bodies moving. The track isn't just a nostalgic throwback, though. Fanciulli's crisp production and innovative sound design ensure "YSD" feels just as relevant on today's dancefloors. Following up, "We R Bass" takes things in a slightly different direction. Here, pulsating kick drums and sharp snares drive the energy, while warped vocal samples and twisting synths add a layer of intrigue. Review: Fresh from joining forces with Butch for the Defected-released, Marvin Gaye-sampling joy of 'I Want You', Nic Fanciulli goes solo via a belated Rekids label debut. He hits the ground running with the chunky, bass-heavy, techno tempo disco-house rush of 'On My Mind', where the long-serving producer makes great use of some sweet (and well-known) vocals, expertly placed filter trickery and sampled orchestral builds. In contrast, 'U Gotta' is a more hypnotic, bass-heavy affair that builds slowly and subtly via looped riffs, sustained one-note string sounds, and echo-laden female vocal snippets. A locked-in, basement-ready groover for the early morning heads-down crew.

Review: This is not the first compilation to drop whose sole aim is to raise funds for NHS Chartities Together - R&S Records and Bass Agenda both delivered similarly epic sets - but "Care4Life" may well be the strongest and most diverse. As you'd expect, each one of the 45 tracks is previously unreleased, and the cast list reads like a who's who of dance music culture. Notable highlights include an ultra-deep, saucer-eyed number from Daniel Avery, an unheard rework of the Chemical Brothers' "Catch Me I'm Falling", a superb revision of Harvey's Locussolus project by Kiwi, Matthew Herbert in jazzy broken beat mode, a rare solo outing from Optimo's JD Twitch, a rip-roaring rave workout from Jas Shaw, and thumping peak-time bangers from Dusky, Eats Everything and Patrick Topping.

Review: Saved boss Nic Fanciulli follows last year's "Understand" release on Rekids with this diverse two-tracker. The title track is a big-room slammer, led by insistent chord stabs and repetitive vocal samples. The use of sudden drops and builds throughout the arrangement guarantees that it will have maximum impact. On the flip side, "Werk (Move Your Body)" offers a very different proposition. It sounds like Fanciulli has been listening to loads of late 90s Gene Farris and DJ Sneak, with the result that he delivers insistent disco loops and shimmering strings unfolding over a tracky house groove that just keeps on building.

Review: Although he's been offering up dancefloor hits for decades, Nic Fanciulli has not previously featured on Crosstown Rebels. He's saved something rather special for his belated bow, offering up a pleasingly melodic, slowly-building blend of smooth tech-house beats, glassy-eyed deep house melodies, clattering layered percussion, dreamy pads and vintage vocal samples borrowed from a turn-of-the-90s dance classic. It's good, but Paul Woolford's accompanying "Endless Bassline Remix" is arguably even better. Inspired by the stuttering, delay-laden dubs of NYC proto-house records and the piano-sporting cheeriness of late '80s "garage-house", the Yorkshire producer's revision is a stunning retro-futurist workout that clocks in at nearly 12 minutes. You'll be hearing it a lot this summer.

Review: Nic Fanciulli's association with Rekids stretches back to 2012 when he remixed Radio Slave's "Grindhouse", but this is his first release proper for the label. The title track strikes a great balance between soul and force, with the Saved boss laying down a beguiling female vocal over a thumping club rhythm that is led by steely percussion and tough kicks. The inclusion of a pitch-bent male vocal adds some extra moodiness to "Understand". Meanwhile, "Where U At" is just as impressive; inspired by the tough tracky legacy of labels like Relief, Fanciulli drops a tweaked, analogue workout, replete with building chords and repetitive vocal snatches.

Review: With the same certainty that the leaves will turn brown and fall from the trees, autumn sees the release of Toolroom's closing party album. It's the label's annual state of the (house) nation address and 2018 is no exception. While this year's edition contains a healthy smattering of feel good house - the most impressive exempts being the vocal grooves of Weiss' "Feel My Needs" and Illyus & Barrientos' "MEA" - there are also more adventurous variants on offer. These include Peggy Gou's tweaked acid take on Shakedown's "At Night", the chord heavy Dusky take on KiNK's "Perth" and the cut-up, abstract "Pale Blue Dot" by rising lo-fi house artist Ross From Friends, which demonstrate that this year, Toolroom is thinking outside the box.

Review: Mark Knight & Co. are straight up with their latest title - but considering their current 15th birthday celebrations, these guys can do whatever they want - they hardly do wrong anyway! House, Tech House, Techno Vol 2 does exactly what is says on the tin with a whopping 62 tracks and three continuous mixes - each dedicated to said subgenre. From that massive remix of Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" by current scene favourites CamelPhat, Saved main man Nic Fanciulli's collaboration with Damon Albarn on "Saying" (Kolsch remix), label head honcho Knight himself steps up to deliver the pumping and white noise filled "We Get High From The Music" (feat Mr V) and the inimitable Danny Howells is always welcome - particularly with a track as electrifying as the recently released "Isolar".
