Review: Here's the next release on Nigel Hayes & Vincent Inc's Astrolife Recordings out of London, with the former serving up "Not Alone". In its original form, the track is an impressive composition that takes the best of early '90s deep house with all its jazzy flourishes, complete with Rhodes keys and bongo drums atop. Legend Aqua Bassino of F Communications fame presents two delightful reworks, the evocative Deep Mix was our favourite and provided the perfect backdrop to Natalia Kissoon's amazing vocals. Also worthy of note is Pawel Kobak's Spiritual Dub which nails that classic French deep house sound of yesteryear that gets those pan-pipes going crazy.

Review: Vincent Inc's Ukraine-based Manuscript imprint bring us a new outing from London producer Nigel Hayes that's definitely gonna turn a few heads on the dancefloor! Without its vocal, 'Stop' would be a perfectly playable, if unexceptional, little deep house roller, augmented by a breakdown with an almost junglistic b-line - but it's the Supremes vocal bites (from 'Stop In The Name Of Love', or possibly a cover version thereof) that give the track its USP. The label boss's Spaceway Mix, meanwhile, is a tripped-out, genre-defying small hours excursion par excellence - prepare to have your consciousness expanded!

Review: 2018 saw Twilight Recordings boss Nigel Hayes teaming up with Vincent Inc to launch the Astrolife label, on which he now presents his fourth long-player, which generally speaking sits somewhere between broken beat, nu-jazz, and lo-fi hip-hop/funk reminiscent of the Cold Busted camp. That description doesn't really do the album justice, though, because across its 14 tracks you'll find everything from frantically shuffling Latino beats (see 'Sierra Nevada' or 'Life In Sitges'), via lounge-y interludes like the Hammond-led 'Flore', to dusty chill-out grooves with a Capt James T Kirk vocal ('Space Flight') and even, on the title track, a little bit of house. An enjoyable and varied listen.

Review: The past few years have seen the re-emergence of Nigel Hayes, the UK producer responsible for many musical house EPs during the early part of the millennium. While the releases on his Astrolife label have been somewhat more direct, Blood Moon shows that he still has a fondness for embracing different styles. Dub influences rise to the surface on the laid back "Blood Moon Rising" and the more dance floor friendly "Alone In Jamaica". On "Mad Sometimes", Hayes continues his dubbed out voyage, this time utilising live drums and stream of consciousness-style vocal samples to great effect, while "Appleton In Dub" is an irresistible, smoky stepper.

Review: Nigel Hayes is probably best known for his collaboration with Funk D'Void as Chaser, but as Lunar Life demonstrates, his solo work is just as impressive. Issued on his own fledgling Astrolife label, it sees the UK producer move from the cinematic ambience of "Lunar Life (Pt 1)" into sleek, pulsating deep techno grooves such as "Spacedust" as well as embracing more tracky club grooves like the throbbing bass-led "That Was Then". However, as tracks like the jazzy, double bass-and sax-sampling "Double Dip" and the evocative "Message From Mars" both demonstrate, Hayes true calling is deep, musical house music.
