Review: Swedish label Parabel celebrates reaching double figures with this split release. It starts with Patrick Siech's "Noctambulist", where the Parabel and Drumcode regular delivers a driving but deeply musical sound, its chords soaring over a tough, rolling rhythm. On "Molgon", Petter B, another Swedish artist, drops an eerie, stripped back techno track, while Nima Khak ups the pace with "Reportage Sur Moto". Its groove pulses and rolls subtly, with atmospheric pads and chords building up and down throughout the arrangement. Newcomer Benjamin Mull closes out the release with "Cavandish", where a different approach prevails - instead of straight kicks, broken beats underpin the track's eerie textures.

Review: Andre Kronert's label continues on its mission to showcase underground techno on this second installment of Diffused Light. This time, the emphasis is on emerging and under-the-radar artists. Observer's "Density Wave" caters to a big room audience as it resounds to a muddy bass and rough kicks. Meanwhile, Anders Hellberg's "Over the Hill" will resonate with a similar audience, even though it revolves around tranced out synths and doubled-up claps. Following a more understated approach is Electric Rescue's "Beldip (tt 144)", which revolves around a bubbling bass and rasping percussion. Best of all is Nima Khak's "Ebb Och Flod", where brittle, stepping rhythms merge with mysterious static hiss and hum for a heady combination.

Review: Swedish Naan Boys is the latest side project from Scandinavian techno veteran Jesper Dahlback - and on this occasion he has teamed up with Nima Khak. The stripped back rhythm and dubbed out percussion of "Kittens Are Llamas" make it sound closer to mid-00s Sandwell District rather than being Motor City influenced. It's only a minor diversion though; "Mortal Sexual Energy" is led by billowing chords and dubbed out percussion - together with the understated rhythm it represents the dreamy side of Detroit techno. Best of all though is "Expansion of Timelessness", where the pair sound like they are emitting tones and signals from deep inside a secret bunker.
