Circles LP (Sampler)
Circles (feat Lucy Kitchen) - (5:40) 174 BPM
Homage (feat Visionobi) - (5:10) 58 BPM
Voyager (feat Tayah Ettienne) - (5:32) 174 BPM Hot
Review: Previously the sole preserve of limited vinyl, Nitri's Circles album sampler finally enjoys a digital release. Featuring three of drum & bass's most prominent voices; Lucy Kitchen, Visionobi and Tayah Ettienne, each cut shows us a different side to the Sao Paulo artist. The title track tips a nod to the early 2000s heads-down tech tactics while "Homage" plunges us deep into the abyss with Visionobi breaking into full song on the chorus. Finally "Voyager" closes the sampler on a floating cosmic trip with pristine breaks cracking the whip under dreamy pads and vocals. The "Circles" of life.

Enough's Enough
Enough's Enough (feat DRS) - (5:13) 58 BPM
Poltergeist (feat SENSE MC) - (6:05) 58 BPM Hot
Torment - (4:51) 174 BPM
Ghostz - (5:36) 174 BPM
Review: Hailing from Sao Paolo, Brazil, Luciano Nitri is a producer with a different, some say deeper, take on DnB that's propelled him to the top of respected DJs' playlists everywhere. Here he presents "Enough's Enough", an EP packed with four of his unique cuts. The title track is a genre-melting dark synth grinder, with trap influenced beats and a grime-style flow from DRS. Elsewhere "Poltergeist" is haunted tropical dub, "Torment" is aerodynamic, snake-like DnB jaunt and lastly "Ghostz" sticks with the lively beats, buts tonnes of super creepy atmospherics.

Good Old Days/Gaia/Makes Me Wonder
ArpXP/HLZ - "Good Old Days" - (6:12) 58 BPM Hot
HLZ - "Gaia" - (7:11) 174 BPM
ArpXP/Nitri - "Makes Me Wonder" - (4:29) 160 BPM
Review: This little beauty is a reminder of what gorgeous things lie just out of view of the norm. Arp XP has been creating weighty, but magical drum and bass for a good few years now. "Good Old Days" shows just how finessed his already clean and sophisticated sound has become, working perfectly in sync with HLZ to create a modern Med masterpiece. HLZ's solo effort "Gaia" punches in some dark minimalism lightened by passing ripples of melody, later ripping apart the peace with a terrorising bassline. ArpXP returns for "Makes Me Wonder" with Brazilian player Nitri, who's forsaken the bongos for real, own-to-earth Metalheadz old-school. We like. We like a lot.

Going To The Sun/Lies (Calibre Remix)
Going To The Sun (feat Grimm) - (5:01) 172 BPM
Nitri & Level 2 - "Lies" (feat Grimm - Calibre remix) - (5:53) 175 BPM Hot
Going To The Sun (instrumental mix) - (4:55) 172 BPM
Searching (instrumental mix) - (5:47) 174 BPM
Review: No self-respecting drum & bass fan passes up a new Calibre remix and this one is a doozy. Kicking off with Nitri's original "Going To The Sun" featuring the unmistakably smooth and sultry vocal talents of Grimm, things get deep and classy for the velvety depths of "Lies" and then a perfect instrumental mix of techy masterpiece "Going To The Sun" picks out the subtle melody in the bass. Of course the heads don't need us to tell them to pick this tune up - they'll have been waiting for it already. So what are you waiting for?

Review: Enter Bailey for V Music to show the world what the face of D&B looks like as we approach the end of the beginning of 2014. Featuring 24 tracks of the hardest-hitting jungle drum & bass the scene has to offer, this adroitly named compilation is an ode to the more stripped back, raw sounds of D&B's past - all with the unmistakable edge of 2014 production power. Take note - if bass ain't your thing, move it along. There's nothing for you to see here.

Strange Side - (4:59) 174 BPM
Review: Taking Brazillian funk and European sharpness and fusing the two, Nitri returns to Horizons Music with the type of release that brings the night crawlers out of hiding. Deeper and darker than ever, he's gone in on a bassline and quirky, bone-chilling vocals to create a tune already used as part of every good dancefloor's staple diet. The instrumental version is ideal for when things get murky on "Strange Side", an oddball throw-down of scattered beats tumbling into gargantuan bassy caverns. Put the two together and you've got another instant classic from one of D&B's most consistent labels.

Review: Brazilian producer and prolific tune-making machine Nitri has been busy again - what's new? - creating an EP for Horizons which bridges the gap between sweet, musical, jazz-influenced drum & bass from the beautiful South American coast and dark, stepping rhythms that belong somewhere far colder. Featuring the soulful vocal talents of Canada's own Grimm and a heady, break-fuelled remix from Dispatch regular DLR, this EP isn't your usual collection of liquid rollers. Representing the finest in the current sounds of Brazil, this is fresh from the ever-changing scene of Sao Paulo direct to your system - you can't say fairer than that.

Searching (Break mix)
Nitri + Jinadu - "Searching" (Break mix) - (4:52) 174 BPM Hot
Nitri - "Musica" - (4:53)
Review: Nitri's sunkissed vibes meet Break's faultless bass alchemy in this high power remix. Featuring the silken vocals of Jinadu, this release is a powerful hybrid of smooth jazzy gorgeousness and a hard-stepping, hi-tempo monster. Erring on the soulful side, it's a perfect blend of the two, with just enough bite to keep things interesting. "Musica" is a total change-up, with abstract percussion snapping and clicking through atonal synths and disjointed vocals. More haunted sci-fi than happy-go-lucky, don't expect to pull this out for the sun worshippers - it's strictly for those who prefer the mean beats and nasty nature of D&B's dark side.

Survivors (Amoss remix) - (6:19) 170 BPM Hot
Laser Gun - (5:10)
Played by: Soula, Rob Perpetual
Review: Horizons have a reputation for putting out only the finest dark and dirty underground drum & bass around, whilst Brazilian bassmonger Nitri has been showing his hand for some time now, with remixes by the likes of Break and Naibu already under his belt. This time he rises to the forefront of his own accord, pulling out the big guns with seriously deep rolling bass and precise percussion to set dancefloors alight thanks to Amoss on tight as cluck remix duties. "Laser Gun" on the flip is a crisp minimal destroyer, ramping up the pressure with clear cut precision and sustained pads. Get your teeth in.

Review: Drum & Bass Arena has ruled on high for nearly 20 years, and in that time has helped to forge the careers of every drum & bass artist worth their salt. It's impossible to downplay the influence the site has had on the scene, as a club brand and an online resource, and this year their official compilation is a doozie. Featuring some of the largest tracks around right now from Friction & Skream, J Majik & Wickaman, DJ Hazard, Rene LaVice, Calyx & TeeBee, Original Sin and Optiv & BTK as well as bangers from fresh artists like Heist, Zen & Nitri, this is an essential purchase for any D&B fan. Focussing on the heavier end of the spectrum this 35 track behemoth is basically your 2013 compendium of bass. Don't leave home without it.

Quintana
Quintana - (5:10) 174 BPM Hot
Route - (5:38) 172 BPM
Played by: Nitri
Review: Brazillian drum & bass prodigy Nitri may only have 137 Facebook fans at the time of writing, but among those who've already shown their support are Andy C, DJ Hype, Bryan Gee, Twisted Individual, Crissy Criss, DBR UK, DJ Hazard, Fathom Audio and Random Movement. Not many producers need more fingers and toes to count their big name supporters this early on in their career but Nitri is something different. He's a Sao Paulo resident whose music errs on the darker edge of D&B, leaning heavily on the industrial sounds of the early days. Both tracks wouldn't be out of place at a Renegade Hardware night which goes to show - if you create what you love, the accolades will come. Flipside track "Route" meanwhile is a low-end minimal hurter. Watch out for Nitri, he's expecting big things and we don't blame him.

Review: A wonderful selection from Horizons Music here as label boss Neil Monteiro gathers the good, the bad and the ugly together for the ultimate in compilation albums. Across this 26-track selection we have contributions from artists such as Data, Sunchase, Amoss, Baron, Cern, Sabre and more. Kicking off with the sparse and machine-like soundscapes of Data's "False" we are taken through such moments as the S.P.Y-esque "Deconstructed" by Spirit; the low slung dubbed out "Tolerate" by Clarity and the razor sharp minimalism of Amoss' "Footloose". All in all, there's something for everyone here and underground D&B heads should definitely be eyeing this up for their next purchase - you won't be disappointed.

Review: If you like things deep, dark and brooding then this excellent release from Nitri on Plush should cut the proverbial mustard. A spaced out intro of crackling white noise and sonorous atmospherics swiftly progresses into a soundscape carved out from snapping snares and moody minimalism. As the track moves on, we are plunged deeper and deeper into the unknown, with only a glimmer of bassline pressure to guide us. Murky and meditative, this one track single provides plenty of food for thought.
