Review: Featuring serious numbers from Curses, Fabrizio Mammarella, Pin Up Club and more - this Borix compilation presents the Best Of Relish VIII. With two badass remixes by Robi Insinna not be be overlooked, Niv Ast drops in with a pumping and slightly tripped out electro number "Tatiana", next to UK beat-poetry of Bozzwell's haunted indie session "Isolation Underground". Fabrizio Mammarella turns up the drums in his contribution via "Magnesium", with a Curses remix of Younger Than Me something of a bonus track that turns in a darkly defiant post punk number that buuurns. Enjoy!
Review: La Belle is a multinational label owned and managed by three friends in Paris: Antoine Harispuru (Golden Bug), Herr Styler and the La Tebwa Records' head honcho who goes unnamed in this instance (enigmatic!). Eight years, 20 artists and 43 releases, it has quickly established itself with its unique style. Now, they present the One Night Stands series: a unique collection of unreleased tracks, sought-out and selected with all the experience and the appetite of the founders. From London to Tel Aviv via Madrid and Paris, One Night Stands mixes well-established projects such as Golden Bug, In Fields, In Flagranti, Akkan and DESTIINO (Yuksek's side project), as well as newer artists like Sebastopol, Youkounkoun, Ozzy and many others
Review: If this EP is to be believed then the sound of Tel Aviv is all about ultra-deep house and moody, leftfield electronica. Niv Ast's 'Rainey Heart' is a slow-building affair that wouldn't sound out place early doors in a Cattaneo or Digweed set with its complex, evolving percussion and low, constant synth drone. Rina's 'Peppermint Bouquet' is a deep tribal jam with a trippy, hazy feel, while Naduve's 'Hex Mex' is a slo-mo number that rides a lumbering rhythm with snatches of Arabic speech, birdsong and other off-the-wall sounds. Completing the EP is 'Marbel Arch' [sic] from Middle Sky Boom, another slow-moving, atmospheric chugger.
Review: In his Watergate label debut, French DJ-producer Rafael Cerato, known for his progressive house and techno touch, delivers the Vocalizer EP - a triumphant trio of high-energy club tracks. Kicking off with a peak-time anthem with a gripping chord progression to boot, it's ethereal pads, and precision drums furthermore that set the tone. Teaming up with Tel Aviv's Niv Ast for the subsequent tracks, "Sunny Glaze" bursts at the seems with Niv's commanding vocals, spirited synth line, and robust bass, while "On My Knees" ups the ante by blending acoustic elements with some indie prog signatures. Featuring Niv's soaring vocals and exhilarating percussive elements once more, the record showcases Cerato's versatility and Niv Ast's distinctive energy to match.
