Review: Off-Switch Audio have had a pretty powerful last 18 months of releases, with this brand new four track delight from Druid fitting into that collection perfectly. We begin our journey through this one with a look at 'Cyber Dub', a colourful feast of synthetic design and padded atmospherics, exploring the more ethereal side of 140 music, before the lethal sub designs and sweeping synth action of 'Digital Terminal' run riot. Next, we take it to a more minimal place as 'Dred Pirate' focuses on heavily dubbed out delays and reverberated melody, before Nuboid gets busy with a skippy, 2-step take on 'Digital Terminal' to round us out with a bang!
Review: The Cella team have arranged a pretty powerful election here as they unveil the incredible tracklisting for 'Radio Static', a dubstep compilation showcasing the deeper and darker side of the sound featuring ten potent original creations. The tracklisting boasts some heavyweight names, from Kodama and Drumterror to BFM & Khabs. It's just an impressive body of work across the board if we are honest, with our highlights including the twisted eastern melodies and crunchy drum slices of 'Clarity' from Reamz, alongside 'Hush', a more experimental, higher tempo creation from Turner On The Track. This is definitely a project that would be improved by a long-play listening session. This is dubstep done right in 2021!
Review: When it comes to long-form dubstep projects, it is often easy to get bogged down, with a lot of producers wanting to write the same track over and over again 12 times. Off-Switch Audio however have provided us with a very special project indeed as they welcome Nuboid's outstanding 'Nomad' LP. From the intense soundscapes of 'Authority', and sweeping eastern flute melodies of 'Shuji', to the grimey reese lines of 'Relic', this project showcases an incredible level of versatility from start to finish. Our highlights from this one have to include the pleasing reversed-string melodies and smooth drum work of 'Shizen', alongside the plucky arpeggios and unpredictable rhythmic switch ups of 'Flash'. We would highly recommend listening through this one on long play!
Review: Launched in 2017 with a free compilation and a cheeky limited 12, new London label Off-Switch Audio hit Junodownload with their inaugural digital single from London new gen bass sculptor Nuboid: "Rezonate". Resonating with serious feels, the original is loaded with space and emotion as we glide through a wavy, halftime soundscape that's rich in pads and minor keys. Remix-wise label mates Six Sunsets add a thundering grime beat to the mix while Sam ULG flips the cathedral mode with a towering piece of sad theatre that's reminiscent of Joker at his deepest and most sensitive.
