Review: Next up on Hardgroove is Nuke with a diverse EP. "Cookie Love" starts the release in frenetic mode. Claps crash in over a menacing organ, with this interplay held together by a driving rhythm. It has echoes of Robert Hood's minimal techno sound. "Legal Vacuum" is another peak-time track. Centred on a layered, building filter, Nuke underpins it with a steely groove. "Ignorant Groovers" is also stripped back and linear. Revolving around a lithe rhythm, it features subtle vocal samples and chiming bells. The only exception to this approach is "Ten Eleven Twelve". Led by dubbed out drums, once again it sees Nuke fuse a looped vocal with subtle filter builds.
Review: Founded in the dark year of 2020, Yamatai have blossomed into an exciting and highly respected platform for new talent and forward-facing, progressive drum & bass sounds. 'Foundations Of Yamatai' is a celebration of this as a league of established and highly ranked new generation artists such as Kyrist, Rizzle, Waeys, Able, Black Barrel, Screamarts, Invadhertz and take on past releases by the rising likes of Corrupted Mind, Kalane, R3IDY, Pine and XAETIS. The results are a powerful, heavyweight blend of upfront sounds ranging from the future funk of Ill Truth's take on 'Memories' a stunning twisted UKG flip from Disprove. A powerful statement of intent from a young and promising stable.
