Review: In something of a dream pairing for Leisure System, this split disc spans the old guard of electro and those well versed in pushing it into new contortions. Dopplereffekt is of course one of the most lauded of all post-Drexciya projects, and new material comes few and far between. "Delta Wave" is a lavish, sweeping wonder of celestial voices and sci-fi mystery that satisfies all your desires without sounding like a re-hash of old material. On the flipside Objekt has risen to the occasion and delivered one of his most outright electro-infused belters to date, keeping the beat rigid but funky, and working similar amounts of drawn out pads into the mix while keeping the crafty edits and playful sounds as limber as ever.

Unglued - (7:46) 129 BPM

Review: After the last Objekt record got everyone frothing at the mouth, he returns with another two tracks of techno-dubstep fusion goodness. "CLK Recovery" warms up with a sound-laden start before a Detroit jazz-lick fills the space between the beats. Three minutes in the noise falls away to an uptempo thump replete with thunderous snares. "Unglued" is more broken as a stepping intro quickly gives way to rubbery synths. Things don't stagnate for long as a bumping groove pulls up before another cheeky jazz refrain and yet more rhythms. It's not often you find floor-ready bangers that also boast such dynamism.

Review: After the meteoric impact of his self-released singles and spots on Hessle Audio, Power Vacuum and Bleep, the electronic music world has been waiting patiently for TJ Hertz to step up and share a wider vista of his sound world. This debut LP for PAN does not disappoint, channelling the electronica quality of his most crushing club music and giving it a chance to roam that bit more freely. The beats still hit hard on the likes of "Ratchet", but that's not their only purpose. With sound design and general production fireworks at the forefront, whether you can dance to this or not is unimportant; what matters is how completely edge-of-your-seat thrilling it is to listen to, from every space age sweep to each grubby reverb impulse. We always knew he had it in him, and Objekt has more than delivered on that promise.

Review: There's a lot of hype surrounding TJ Hertz's work, but thankfully the young producer has the talent to deliver. "Agnes Demise" is all twitchy, hyperactive percussion, a lumbering rhythm and the most merciless kicks and gut-busting bass drops known to man (or machine). All the while that sense of unrest, almost like an itch that won't go away, pervades. "Fishbone" is even more complex; the rhythm feels like it's going to trip over itself and jittery claps support a series of dark sonic blips and jarring riffs. It's chaotic but Hertz manages to navigate his way through the sonic madness with his sanity intact.

Theme From Q - (7:20) 123 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.49
Review: The fourth installment on Objekt's self-titled label has been one of the most eagerly awaited releases of 2017. So is it worth the wait? "Needle & Thread" is an atmospheric, mesmerizing stepper, with the UK producer's lithe, snappy drums underpinning swirling synths, hallucinogenic keyboard squiggles and deft filter action. However, "Theme from Q" is the track that has been praised by all. A tribute to the now shut Basement Q club, it sees TJ Hertz set a dinky house keyboard line to hiccuping drums, pressure cooker builds and a meaty bass to create the most distinctive break beat techno track since Kevin Saunderson's Reese project. On this rare occasion, the hype has been justified.

Review: Continuing the nascent Bleep Green series of releases, Warp's faithful online arm draws on two surefire success stories that in many ways define the crossover between techno and dubstep, albeit in different ways. Objekt is in limber form, firing off ricocheting electro drum patterns in a densely realised soundworld of subtle hum and cell-quaking sub bass. Cosmin TRG is in a slower 4/4 driven mood, but there's a continued embrace of dystopian tones that matches Objekt's own malaise. As the acid slowly edges its way into the song structure, it's clear there is no light at the end of this particularly dank tunnel.
