Review: Having joined forces with Liam Fattori on his Increase The Groove Records label debut, 2021's 'Funk Dat' EP, Alyhas has now found a new musical partner in crime - fellow Parisian producer Occibel. The headline attraction is title track 'Emotional Damage', an infectious, squelchy and supremely funky fusion of synth-funk, boogie, nu-disco and deep house powered forwards by a fantastic bassline. Tiago Walter remixes, re-framing the track as a rolling but heavy slab of synth-laden deep house warmth. Elsewhere, 'Vocoder D.I.T' is another synth-bass propelled slab of spacey deep house/nu-disco fusion, while 'Mindset' is an altogether dirtier and sleazier house workout blessed with a raw, hard bassline.

Review: Chat Noir has always used the 'Tools' series to showcase tracks from talented newcomers, so it's nice to see them welcome back some old faces - now established producers - for a special 'All Stars' release brimming with good-time grooves and seriously playable fodder. Occibel steps up first with the stab-happy, all-action techno retro-futurism of 'Obale', before Vitess wraps the glitchy sounds of tech-house and fizzing, warehouse-ready electronics to a tactile techno beat on 'AB Road'. Sunass then brilliantly dips the tempo on the shuffling, far-sighted, squelch-along tech-funk of 'Off World', before Noiro whisks us off to 'Bikini Bottom', a place where squelchy synth-bass, old skool riffs and sci-fi sonics come together in perfect unison. Jo'Z's 'Analyzing', meanwhile, is a spacey, bouncy, organ-rich techno delight.

Review: Chat Noir Tools continues its exploration of Paris' underground scene with this second release which showcases four tracks from the young producer Occibel. On the Generation EP he delivers four impressive tracks designed for the dancefloor. Features the rolling and hypnotic tech house of "Hold Up" which is in the classic UK tradition, while the title track and "Space Mind" have that retro techno vibe that is popular at the moment and pursued similarly on labels like Art Of Dark or Libertine. Sheffield, northern bleep and rave vibes abound!
