Review: The Smoking Sessions team have always had a knack for putting top quality compilation projects together, with this latest selection being another fantastic addition to their already outstanding catalogue. This second V/A project under 'The Session' title sees the likes of Occult, Synkro, Versa, Sunpal and many more make their return, all delivering sonic-masterclasses across UKG, bass and dubstep themes. The whole project oozes class, from the glittering arpeggios of 'Deeper Future' from Teefreqs to Escapism Refuge's stunning 'Dust' original. The project sets a very high standard, but our highlights including the spacy pad textures and stunning melodic twists of Lews B's 'Hush' and of course Geode's gorgeous 'Some Friday Flavour' original, channeling smooth squarewaves into a fantastic harmonic masterpiece.

Review: Next up from the Deep Heads team, we welcome this tasty new selection from the one and only Audialist, a Swedish producer who is starting to bring his incredibly unique sound to the centre of the dubstep sphere. Through the sunshine chords of 'Serpent', clicking percussion of 'Keep Turning' and incredibly clean bass manoeuvres of 'Dead', he kicks this project off with a real touch of finesse. We then lean into the stunning harmonics of 'Urban Surfer', the dubwise drum and sub combos of 'Sleep It, Eat It, Drink It' and shimmering pad textures of 'Gone' to round off the original creations. He then gets busy of remix duty, giving a spacy UKG rethink to 'Same Kind' from Congi, Occult & Segilola, as well an unbelievable techy overhaul of Congi's 'Mesopotamia' and a highly rhythmic redesign of 'Memento' from Rat. Audialist is most certainly a name to watch in the coming months.

Review: Well, if it's the deeper shade of dubstep that you like to bask under, then the Fent Plates seems like a more than suitable DJ's destination. The fresh and energetic imprint returns to our charts with Disparity Of Time, a collaboration between its most productive artists and bass-smiths. Kaido's "Me" opens the 6-tracker with a sweet, seductive two-step ballad, which is followed by Occult & Menik's more mesmeric shades of haromies on "By The Way", and climaxed by Raiku's meditative IDM glitch through "Waiting Bells". Congi's "Somewhat Of A Story" makes it clear that this EP deals in the more experimental side of bass thanks to a stop-start rhythm of the highest calibre, whereas Myst and Aether's own tunes culminate in a dramatic blend of sounds that takes Fent Plates onto new and unchartered territories. Not your average bass label.
