Review: Dutch imprint Float has decided to celebrate five years in business with two split releases. This second volume starts with the visceral, spiky minimalism of Sleeparchive's "Recreant", with the revered producer substituting tonal bleeps for coruscating percussion. On "Ruffle", label owners Twr72 drop a firing, tribal banger, while Eric Fetcher goes deeper on "Vein". Forsaking the straight dance floor approach in favour of frosty synths and rickety electro drums, it provides some relief before Jeroen Search delivers the lean, streamlined Robert Hood-style techno of "Radaris" and Sev Dah brings this second instalment of the label's fifth anniversary celebrations to a close with the visceral, crunchy rhythm of "Izolacija".
Review: Oisel returns to Float for a second volume of Multiverso. It's clear that the Italian producer is a diverse artist; the release starts with the pummelling, grainy kicks and heads-down rhythm of "RW05". It's the kind of no-nonsense workout you would expect to hear at Tresor or The Bunker. By contrast, "Cepheus" is a droning, eerie affair. There is still a groove, but it remains understated and in the background as Oisel conjures up layer upon layer of atmospheric textures. "Omicron" sits in the middle of these extremes; built on a wiry rhythm, its warbling bleeps and tones take influence from UR rather than European sources. The Lost-esque "Quasar" rounds off this excellent release.
Review: The mysterious Oisel only has a few releases to his credit, but this debut on Oscar Mulero's Polegroup label he proves that he has mastered the art of dark club techno. "Erosione" is a dense, percussive track, supported by heavy kicks and powerful percussive blasts. It's more reduced than the usual Polegroup material but still packs a mighty punch. "Radiazione" follows a similar path. There the drums are more compressed and give off a claustrophobic feeling, but the swung rhythm and militaristic, reverberated hi-hats ensure that it is just as effective as "Erosione". We'll undoubtedly be hearing more of Oisel soon.
