Review: Second-guessing the musical output of Music is Love main man Oli Furness is turning into a rather enjoyable game. He's never been one to settle on one particular groove, vibe or genre, so it's little surprise to find him following July's DJ Sneak-ish Middle Ground with the bumping, low-slung, swamp funk-goes-jack sleaziness of "Wanna Lie Down". Created using a relatively small number of killer elements - bluesy, chant style vocal samples, mind-altering analogue bass, swinging machine percussion and a few choice noises - the track is undeniably one of his strongest to date. Parris Mitchell provides the obligatory remix, underpinning the vintage vocal samples with woozy chords and an even sweatier drum machine groove.

Review: Most instalments in the Shag Edits series tend to see Jamie Trench (Roots For Bloom label boss) cantered in a four-way action scenario with other equally endowed (musically) talents. Here is now different, with Trench slipping between the sheets to deliver the dirty and edgy jacker "Take Off Your Shirt". He's joined by L'Atelier, who delivers a handbaggy rework of an old vogueing classic, whilst Oli Furness turns in a fuzzy, distorted, loop-heavy diva disco jam, "Always Go Back Again" and Ghetto Chords takes control with closer, the super-upbeat Latin house shimmy, "Along The Way".

Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. The first mix is courtesy of Toronto's Nathan Barato, a frequent collaborator with local heroes such as Carlo Lio and The Junkies and whose career has been on the rise with releases on Cajual, Saved, Circus and Defected. Highlights include the Derrick Carter classic "Where Ya At?" (Mix Originale), Makam's brooding "Loleatta" and Jared Wilson's rusty acid odyssey "Girl, I'm Waitin". UK talent Patrick Topping this year completed his third summer as resident at DC10 in Ibiza for Paradise. Here Topping showcases the sound and style of his sets with high energy from the word go. His mix features several of his own productions guaranteed for maximum dancefloor impact, as well as Metaboman's lo-slung and exotic "Next Please" through to Dave Clarke's massive remix of Jark Prongo's "Movin Thru Your System".

Review: Oli Furness from Manchester has a natural ear for the deep and groovy as he says so himself and the 8ball EP is no exception. The Music Is Love boss now appears on Steve Lawler's esteemed VIVA Music this time around and wastes no time on the title track which has all that booming, rolling, bass driven Hot Creations style vibe happening. Next up, "5 Minute Man" gets some early rave flavour happening with those snappy breaks over a 4/4 beat and a seriously snarling baseline. "Workout" is definitely the most solid offering on here; getting quite deep, soulful and emotive opposed to the previous shenanigans on offer.

Review: After overseeing releases from Mikki Funk, Jamie Trench, Jackmaster K and more that helped establish the Music Is Love label, boss man Oli Furness steps up to helm the eighth release. If you are familiar with Furness' work you'll be happy with The Four 4 The Floor EP which takes a pleasingly direct route to the dancefloor. From the opening track "Over Jack" onwards, what really impresses you is how much fun with the samples Furness appears to be having and the way the kick drums and hi-hats slalom around cuts like "Creeping In The Shadows" means you will have as much fun slamming them into your mix.
